Ouch

The Yanks completed their sweep of the Orioles today, but not without some concerns. First, Andy Pettitte, who got the win, had to leave the game after the 5th inning with non-elbow arm stiffness. Apparently, it's not the first he's felt of it and they're going to do an MRI. Let's just hope it's adhesions. The other discouraging item was the performance of the pen. Mitre gave up a two run homer, and Dave Robertson gave up back to back homers. When Logan walked a man in the 9th, Aceves actually had to come in and face the go-ahead run for the one out save. Ridiculous. And it's really anyone's guess what is wrong with Robertson, but this has gone on too long. On the positive side, Nick Johnson may have had a breakout game with a single, a double, a homer and two walks. Nick Swisher also homered, and Mark Teixeira, remember him?, came through with a two run double. Yanks win 7-5. Off day tomorrow, then Phil Hughes goes against the Red Sox. Go Yanks!

If there is an enduring issue with Pettitte, I want Joba moved to the rotation.

Who can Eiland fix?

MRI on Pettitte revealed mild inflammation of his left elbow. It will be treated conservatively and will be evaluated on a daily basis.

Apparently, he's also going to miss his next start. We might get a look at Ivan Nova, who's on the 40 if they don't want to stretch out Joba.

Also, Abe Almonte is gone for the year with labrum surgery.

TBH, I think they really don't know how serious it is. It's all about the discomfort he feels.

Yup, it could be an ongoing story.

This is why every effort must be made over the next several years to replace this aging core with younger, fresher players. To this team's credit, they've won despite the injuries. The '05 - '08 Yankees would likely be below .500 right now.

I agree, Mike. Gardner and Cervelli, at least for now, are making it easier to withstand the injuries, as are Joba, Phil, and Cano, but we need more quality young depth.

Any idea on who Yanks are looking at in the draft?

They tend to go BPA early and it depends on who falls to them when they pick. In general, I think we'll see them pick some SS's, some CF's and more P this year. We'll also, undoubtedly take a high upside catcher or two.

They need to spend to rebuild the farm.

He was being questioned by Sandy Alderson earlier this week, and I think his ability to sign is pending on the results of that talk.
