DePaula?
The Buscon who claimed the Mariners were going to sign top International pitching prospect Raphael DePaula has now heard he is going to the Yankees, afterall. I'm following up to see if this is true and will talk a bit more about the kid if it is. The Yanks are also close on Cuban SS Hechevarria. They liken him to an Elvis Andrus type with a better bat. The farm needs to be rebuilt a bit after the trades so let's hope they get them both. Go Yanks!

If true, I'll give credit where credit's due. This would have been a colossal embarrassment of epic proportions had the Yankees lost out.
If a lower payroll is the goal, Hal is going to have to start opening the checkbook for these types.
Yup, it's the only way to do it.
What is The Buscon?
Buscons are the guys who basically develop and promote the kids till they get signed. This guy is not DePaula's buscon but being in the business he hears close to everything.
This guy was pretty adamant about DePaula picking the Mariners the other day. Interesting change of tune.
He and I went back and forth on Twitter, so he asked me for my e-mail cause he didn't want to publicize certain things. So during the week we must have emailed back and forth 30 or so times with him saying the Mariners were definitely getting him and me saying the Yanks were still in it. Then I didn't hear from him yesterday, then today he e-mailed me that the Yanks had him.
People do seem to reveal way too much private information on twitter. It's bizarre.
Anyway, we really need this kid.
We may like this other kid Matias, who is a converted SS, and shorter just a bit more. But I'm hoping we get both.
Phil, did I read correctly when I was lurking over at NYYFans, that this guy thinks the Yankees will cause an international draft?
I really hope the owners don't get that pushed come the next CBA.
He does. But the Yanks will probably rally a group and stop an international draft. They're obviously not gonna just keep taking it from MLB.
Small market teams are now exploiting international signings because they realize it affords them the opportunity to get a big bang for their buck. A draft could have unintended consequences.
