Nate is a Celt

Don't have the details yet, but here ends the Knick career of one of the most frustrating players in Knick history. Short as he was, he was also talented as all hell and if he had only brought the heart and determination he showed in college to the Knicks, he would have been a big star in this league. Needless to say, it's sad, but let's see what we got. Go Knicks.

UPDATE: Looks like it's for Eddie House and another 2nd round pick. It won't be announced till tomorrow, but if true, this is a terrible deal for the Knicks. How do you get two teams interested and not even come away with a first round pick? Just terrible.

FURTHER UPDATE: Hahn says it might not be a second rounder.

LATEST UPDATE: Seems to be Nate for Giddens and House. No picks for the Knicks no seeming point, for the Knicks either. Earlier they had traded Darko for Brian Cardinal. Another pointless errand. Oh well.

This makes T-mac more likely imo

Hahn:

Nate trade not "official" but done - and @WojYahooNBA says may not finalize until tomorrow - but sounds like it is House/2nd Rnd pick.

Hahn changed his story again saying stay tuned

saying the return Knicks are getting not accurate House/2nd

not sure how reliable this is but http://www.theknicksblog.com/2010/02/17/knicks-to-get-first-round-pick/

If so, I would think it's heavily protected.

At 2:21 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Hahn says the Knicks want to protect the picks going to Houston, the Rockets are now saying maybe they will hold on to McGrady.

I hope they do. Screw them.

I think Houston is posturing at this point...

Hahn:

The Knicks would prefer it to be a first-rounder to either make up for the loss of this year's pick (which goes to Utah as result of the Jan. 2004 Stephon Marbury trade) or perhaps 2011 or 2012 to potentially cover including their own pick in the offer with the Houston Rockets for Tracy McGrady.

Meanwhile, that situation remains very much unpredictable at this point. The very public gamesmanship on this front has been amazing, with varying reports from all agendas. One report had Rockets sources are claiming they have decided not to trade Tracy McGrady, which is incredibly premature and not even close to anything I've heard.

While it's certainly possible that nothing happens with McGrady, we've maintained all along that this will go up until the trade deadline at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The Knicks obviously don't want to pay the hefty price of Jordan Hill, swapping a first rounder in 2011 and then giving up an unprotected 2012 just to clear Jared Jeffries' $6.8M off the cap. And they certainly don't want to do it if there is no other real competition. From what I know, Walsh is trying to lottery protect those picks so we don't have another Eddy Curry Trade situation (unprotected first rounders in 2006 and 07 went to the Bulls, who drafted Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas) here again.

And trust me when I say that the knowledge that Utah has the Knicks' first-rounder this year as a result of the Stephon Marbury trade from 2004 does not sit well in the offices at 2 Penn Plaza.

So it's really up to the Rockets to decide if they want to get anything or nothing before McGrady comes off their payroll on June 30. The Knicks are willing to give up something, but not everything if they don't have to.

Looks like Nate is official. Giddens and House, per the Knicks pre-game..

Per Wojo at Yahoo

Bulls have fallen out of consideration for TMac and Houston focus on negotiating draft pick protection to complete NY deal, sources say.

I think the Jamison trade makes it less likely that LeBron leaves. I also doubt Wade is moving, especially in they get Amare. It doesn't seem to make sense to mortgage the future for Bosh/Johnson.

They need a Plan B.

At 6:12 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I never counted on Wade anyhow. I think the Cavs getting Jamison has no affect on LeBron. If they don't win it this year, they won't win it. I believe our roster has more potential upside then theirs.

At 6:20 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I thought that until they got Jamison.

Isn't Carmelo a FA next year? If so, why not sign one this year and him next year, while keeping Hill and the picks?

At 6:45 PM, Blogger Rich said...

btw, Duhon is still the weak link. They would be a better team merely by waiving him.

At 6:51 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Jamison won't keep James in Cleveland. He's gonna be a knick.

As you so often say: We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I don't follow this team, or the NBA in general, closely. However, what exactly has been the Knicks' problem all these years, and are better day ahead? It's definitely something that has me curious.

Dolan has hired mediocre (Scott Layden), or worse (Isiah Thomas), GMs, and he has tolerated their incompetence for far too long. He has done the same thing with the Rangers (see Sather, Glen).

But even when he has had decent GMs. like Ernie Grunfeld, the franchise adopted a win-now attitude which almost always results in never winning, especially when their is a very strict salary cap.

For example, it was reported that when Kobe was drafted, the Knicks could have traded for him if they had been willing to give up Charles Oakley. But because they were more interested in trying to win one ring with an aging team, they decided to pass on a young player who could have helped them win a bunch of rings.

The same attitude has actually animated the franchise since they won their last championship in '73.

I think better days are ahead, but those days may not include any rings.

Wow, TMac went to the Kings. We're stuck with Jeffries.

At 10:44 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Eh, apparently, it could be a three way deal that still sends him to the Knicks...

At 11:11 PM, Blogger Rich said...

All kind of links

No trade is better than a bad trade, and that's what I thought this would have been.

At 6:42 AM, Blogger Michael said...

rumors are now that Boston could be involved in the 3 way with the Kings...

At 6:44 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Keep Hill and trade Douglas instead.

At 6:46 AM, Blogger Michael said...

maybe this is why Donnie did not announce the Nate deal..

At 6:46 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's looking like another "refresh twitter" day.

At 6:48 AM, Blogger Michael said...

yes it does Phil, FYI Hahn will be on w Tierney at 10:25 on 1050

At 6:50 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think they haven't announced the Nate deal because there's a pick involved they don't want Houston to know about.

At 6:54 AM, Blogger Michael said...

If we do get a pick then the Nate deal is not as bad as one would think, esp if it's a first rounder..

At 7:00 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

That would be true and it would then make some sense.

At 8:05 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Things are too quiet.

At 8:08 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Arm Tellem is the key figure here. Hahn unsure at this point, says Nate is done package coming back is TBD..

At 8:22 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Hahn was just on WFAN, and Carlin asked him T-Mac a Knick or not he said he believes so.

At 9:18 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Isola says we are getting T-Mac

At 9:57 AM, Blogger Rich said...

For the Kings to take Jared Jeffries, they're also asking for David Lee and picks in N.Y., source says. Guess how that's going over at MSG?

Woj

At 10:19 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Wojo reports we got T-mac!

At 10:20 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Wow, not such a bad deal.

At 10:22 AM, Blogger Michael said...

we kept hill and got Sergio.. Does this change your views on Walsh so far Phil?

At 10:27 AM, Blogger Rich said...

We have to know about pick protection first.

It looks like Isola's source was right about Hill.

It would have bee like saying we gave up our shot at Wall for nothing.
