Knicks Closing In on a Deal
The Knicks are closing in on a deal that would send Jeffries, Harrington or Hughes, and Hill to the Rockets for Tracy McGrady and filler. On the face of it, it looks huge, as that would open up enough cap room to sign to Max FA's in July. But the devil is often in the details and we'll have to see if there are picks or any other considerations involved if we make the move. On the plus side, this would allow us to trade Nate Robinson for a 1 in this year's draft if anyone is interested. Let's hope for the best possible outcome as we await the details.

Phil, what's your take on the proposed deal? I'm not sure how I feel about it. Either they don't like Hill or they're REALLY confident they can land 2 of the big 3.
I like it if it gets rid of Jeffries. We then have room for 2
max players and Curry's money coming off for 11. They can always buy picks.
To me, it shows how incompetent Walsh was for drafting Hill instead of sending the pick to Utah.
If he includes any picks, he should be fired.
Isola:
"The Knicks apparently think the price is too steep."
We'll have to wait and see what happens.
Goodbye Nate ?
we better get picks for Nate.
If Nate goes, then I would expect the T-Mac deal to follow soon after...

Swapping ones (without lottery protection) is still a lot when you factor in that Walsh thought Hill was worth passing on the chance to be in the lottery for Wall. Given that decision, I really have no faith in Walsh's judgment.
Rich, I read over on REALGM, that it's lottery protected... we shall see... Looks like Nate is a goner too
The 2012 pick that is...
Mannix last tweet reads
Guys, Rockets will have option of swapping picks. That's the final holdup, working on protection for both sides
Michael,
Then I misread Mannix. I thought he meant the only pick involved was the 2011 pick.
Either way, I don't like this trade. It's yet another move made for a quick fix out of desperation, which in the past has only caused them to become even more desperate.
Rich, you maybe right then what I read on REALGM conflicts it somewhat. I am not as upset if it's lottery protected, esp if Nate gets us a pick in the first round.. It accomplishes the goal of getting Jeffries and freeing up money. T-Mac is a low risk high reward.. If it works out he could help lure elite talent here. If there is a 2012 pick involved I am with you a total waste of a move.
If I'm reading this right, the Knicks can't sign two max players even if they make the trade.
The Nate deal will have to bring back picks if we're giving away our `12 for TMac.
The Knicks will be able to sign two max guys.
Then where is the guy's logic wrong?
I believe you are right Phil we can sign 2 max players
I think he's estimating too low on the new cap. 108K people at the All Star game just said the cap won't be going down that much.
Either way, this deal is such a steal for the Rockets, it's unbelievable.
If T-mac has anything left not as much of a steal as one would think..
T-Mac lacked explosion the last time he played, and returning to the other point, how do they keep T-Mac and sign two max players?
I don't know. Do you even remember what it was like to have cap room? They can always buy more picks, but they don't have to take on any more bad contracts! It's a beautiful thing.
We're not keeping TMac.
You can buy picks that yield Tony Douglas because they are basically 2nd round picks.
If they cared so much about cap room, why didn't Walsh persuade D'Antoni to play Curry when he was still healthy?
I am merely tired of over leveraging based on quick fixes.
No one was taking more than a year of Curry no matter what.
They are talking about trading him after the season. If he played well, that would only cost a team about a half a season more.
Maybe Walsh will be able to sign LeBron and Wade/Bosh. Maybe he will go down in history as a great Knick GM, but I would rather not put all of our eggs in one basket, because that m.o. has yielded zero championships since '73.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Isola again:
"Donnie is not giving up on Jordan," said one Knicks source. "He told me he's not trading him."
We'll see what happens.
Mattix says Lakers and Celts for Nate
Mattix was just on Dan Patrick radio said deal is in the Knicks hands the parameters are agreed to, and if the Knicks agree on the draft compensation deal is done.
Has'nt the Garden frozen out Isola? He usually seems to be a day behind or so. Hahn for obvious reasons has more of the inside track
From Hahn's chat:
"Odds on McGrady? 50-50, still. I might even say 40-40-20, with the 20 percent that he doesn't get traded at all."
"I think it's safe to say Thursday won't come and go without at least one Knicks-related transaction. If so, I'd be surprised at this point.
"
Isola just blogged that Nate to Boston for Eddie House and other stuff is close... Which if they get a pick from Celts the T-mac deal is not as bad..
Rich I got the impression that Hahn is not opposed to the deal as much as some would be. Hahn is more confident in Donnie having a successful summer then most.
