Day 3
It's the last full day of the Winter Meetings, and it looks like Andy Pettitte will be resigning today. So much for my theory that we would trade for Halladay and Andy would retire. So, once again we get two hundred innings of, hopefully, above average production. His era + was 107 this past season, and while that's fine, we should be looking for better from a top three starter. Still, he's Andy and he's always welcome. Go Yanks!

I still hope the Halladay part of your theory is correct. I think if Andy was the # 4 we could give him more rest through the year and save him for when he is most needed in October
Buster says we maybe open to trading Swisher?? Hmm
I only want Halladay if we can keep Montero, Hughes and Joba.
I don't know why we would trade Swisher. That's a lot of homers.
I agree about the big 3 and am sure Cash does also. I agree with you why would they be open to trading Swish, unless there is something else on the board? Holliday??
The Yankees have $136+m committed for 2011. Add in Granderson's money, and they will be at around $145m. Then add about $35m for Jeter and Mo, and it's $180m. Then factor in raises for the young players, and it's nearing $185m.
There could be an incredible crop of FAs to spend on, and the RS will have a ton of money available.
So if you can subtract Swisher's $9.5m, it makes some sense if they want their payroll under $200m.
Rich, we'd still have to have homers coming back. We basically replaced Matui's lost production with Granderson. If we get Damon back, he'd replace himself to a degree, then we'd have a new hole if we traded Swisher.
Phil,
It's just something to think about because I doubt that they want to be hamstrung in 2011, and right now they probably will be.
The pie just keeps getting bigger, and we could always trade Swisher later.
But do they want to spend more than $200m? It's seems that they don't.
I do think trading Swisher now would likely be selling high.
I think this rules out Halladay. Hopefully, the Yankees can sign someone like Ben Sheets to an incentive-laden deal.

It depends. We'd be selling a hell of a lot of production just when we want to repeat.
It's not that I don't like Swisher, but 2011 is going to be a difficult year if the payroll doesn't go up. That's why signing Damon to a two year deal is beyond absurd.
Sign Matt Holliday and this all becomes moot.

We'll see what happens. I think if they are patient here, they are gonna get some good deals.
Here's some good news about Granderson that I found on the interweb:
According to Baseball Musings day by day database, here are his career splits vs LHP:
home: AB 301 .179/.231/.259
road: AB 318 .239/.306/.425
new post.
