Another Starter by New Year's
This morning the Yankee buzz in the papers is that the Yanks want to sign another by New Year's Day. Pretty dramatic, but wow does it smell of BS. First, what's the rush? There's no one great out there, and the prices will be down in January. Second, since when did Jedi Master Cashman start calling his shots? It doesn't make any sense at all.
In other news, Cash apparently looked into trading for Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano. Yeah, we have a budget. Another name being floated is Jason Marquis. Marquis really doesn't seem like he'd be a good fit for the AL Premiership, and would certainly not be reason to clock Hughes and Joba.
It's unclear what they are up to, but their best bet still means signing Holliday and sticking him in left. Signing Chapman and sticking him in the minors, and letting Joba and Phil take a shot at the 4 and 5. Go Yanks!

There's some buzz that Jack Welch is putting a group together in an attempt to make an offer for the Yankees.
Let's leave the Yankees in the Steinbrenner family, please.
Jack Welch is my old friend Bea's father in law.
Meanwhile, my Yankee sources have been quiet and when that happens it means something big is going down.
Marquis to the Nats according to WFAN citing some other report.
Good did not want Marquis anyway
I'm guessing a trade is in the works for a big-time starter. Just a guess, though.
Are the Braves interested in Damon or Swisher?
Lets get Lincecum for Cano and Hughes!
O-Dawg for 2B.
Davidoff says the Yankees would have wanted the Cubs to pick up some of Zambrano's contract.
They're in stealth mode.
It seems like it's a pitcher that they're going after... at least from what Olney says. The buzz is finally starting to come back.
It's stealth. We'll see.
Harang or Lowe would piss me off.
Davidoff says it's not Harang.
'Two or three serious trade talks for starting pitcher'.
Davidoff
Is that for for a different pitcher in each one?
If it was Lowe the deal could get done in a minute and a half, so I don't think it's Lowe. And if we're making any trade it better not include Montero.
Swisher for Vazquez, then sign Holliday???
Vazquez follows every good year with a bad one. We'd be in line for the bad one.
The only pitchers I would consider for Montero (I'd rather hold him no matter what) are: Felix (not happening), Linceum (not happening), Grienke (highly doubt it), Josh Johnson (I'd rather have Hanley).
They're close on a pitcher and it's not a salary dump, says Feinsand.
I'm calling it now: Dan Haren. (And yes, I know that makes no sense for the D-Backs.)
Heyman says it's not Zambrano..
Changing my guess to Josh Johnson, based upon this:

And this:

I shutter to think about what Johnson would cost.
Actually, it's shudder, dumbass.
Rich, don't talk to my friend Rich like that.
Matt Cain?
