Bidding War?

ESPN is now reporting that the Yanks and Braves are in a bidding war over AJ Burnett. First off, though Burnett is a gamble on greatness type signing, he is not, as currently constructed the kind of guy you get into a bidding war over. CC was, Burnett isn't. He misses bats, but he also misses too many starts. I guess we'll see how this plays out. A long deal for Burnett is gonna block some of these high end pitchers we've been drafting and signing over the last few years. Same with Lowe. Actually, Pettitte and Sheets would provide the least obstruction to kids like Hughes, Betances, Brackman and others. Think, Yanks!

UPDATE: Peter Caldera, the long time Yankee beat reporter says the Yanks have beaten out Atlanta for AJ Burnett: http://njmg.typepad.com/yankeesblog/2008/12/aj-on-deck.html

Olney said on his blog that we were still talking with the Padres about Peavy but it has gone nowhere.

Peavy's agent said the Yanks were more attractive now that they have CC. I wonder how he'll feel about the Yanks having CC, AJ and just one more open spot.
