Rangers Introduce JD
So the Rangers just held John Davidson's introductory press conference. A few things were apparent. First, JD is overjoyed to be home. Second, he likes what the Rangers have been doing, and the way Quinn kept them playing hard. Third, while appreiating everything, JD did not name check Gorton or Clark. Now, this could be a product of emotions or losing his place in his prepared statement, but I did not expect this to be the case. Whether the ommision was accidental or intentional, we have to assume that Gorton and Clark are on a shorter leash than thay they have been recently. Also, JD referenced "our group" a few times when describing his experiences with the Blues and Blue Jackets (now he's back with the Blueshirts, where are the Jayhawks?), so perhaps he will be bringing in some of his own execs and scouts. We'll see. A month from now, we'll be on Day 2 of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Also, I hope the Giants were watching this: JD spoke clearlly, leaving no room for misinterpretation. Thus, the reporters' questions were all simpe and direct. This was a far cry from the Giants typical press and all the attempted "gotcha's" they launch every time Gettleman confuses them.

Davidson is secure in who he is. Gettleman, Shurmur, Mara do not give that impression. Gettleman in particular seems to want to demonstrate he’s the smartest person in the room.
He probably usually, is, so he should be extra careful to be understood, without seeming like he's talking down to anyone.
I’m agnostic, at best, about that.
Just watched the Kay interview of JD -- great stuff. Brought up analytics. Seems intrigued with Quinn and to respect Gorton - mentioned how Gorton made some moves that lead to Boston's continued success. Sounded like the scouting department will get inventoried, but he does seem to already like Kravstov.
I hunk they held off on bringing a new coach for Hartford just because of JD’s hiring. A big reason why is they’ve not developed nor selected the proper players The idea is not to win there but develop. I think some of Jd’s biggest contributions will be revamping Hartford, and our entire minor league system. I think Schoenfeld saw the writing on the wall.
Agree with you Phil, short leash for Gorton, and Clark...
I think Clark more than Gorton. During the Kay interview JD talked mentioned that Gorton helped bild the current Bruins.
Build
I was impressed by JD. TBH, when he was a broadcaster he seemed a bit out of touch on prospects, just stated what was obvious about them. Sam seemed to be more knowledgeable and lead the talking points. Today he spoke about the building out of an organization with youth, the importance of Culture. He has changed a lot, I am looking forward to seeing what his addition brings.
