This Week on the Blog
Alright, the Yanks got started, the Knicks and Rangers kept losing and the Giants didn't do anything stupid this week. Not bad. Let's take a look at the coming week.
Yankees: I think everyone assumed the Yanks would add 2 starters, aside from re-siging CC and Happ, but it wasnt to be, and the trade for Jame Paxton was the only big move and he debuts today. Let's hope he's ready to explore his immense ceiling. In other news, Boone is already playing around with the lineup, and is sitting Greg Bird today so DJLM can play third, and Andujar can DH. Ugh. I hope Boone lets Miggy start in the playoffs. The really exciting event coming up this week is the start of the long season minor league teams. So from low A Charleston to AAA Scranton, the kids will start playing. In general, I think we'll see a lot of breakouts on the farm this year, and I'm breakdown the roster if I have time later this week. 1-2-3, pop-up, K, K, for Paxton!!!!
Giants: the Giants are ramping up their draft preparations. Right now they are going to pro-days and hosting visiting players. They can have 30 non-local visits and I believe their "local visits" from school like Rutgers, and I think up to BC and down to Penn State, are unlimited. This has to be a huge draft for the Giants, and with 12 picks, they ought to get it done. Ideally, they'll get a starting caliber RT and someone who can compete or start right off the bat at C. Beyond that, I'd like to see them get more passrush, another CB and a better backup RB than Wayne Gallman. It would also be nice to get a wide receiver who can get deep. One of the strenghts of the draft is supposed to be TE, so with 12 picks, perhaps they can indulge in another one.
Rangers: the Rangers will wrap up their season this week. So far, they've only signed one undrafted guy and they did not bring over any of their Russians. So some signings might happen right after the season. The Draft lottery will be early this year, so Ranger fans wiill only have to wait til 4/9 to see how the NHL lottery will screw them them this year. With 6 games left it will be interesting to see if the resurrgent Buch sccores his 20th and Kreider makes it to 30. He seemed destined to, before the trades happened.
Knicks: Has been acknowledged, Mitchell Robinson, has been doing a great imitation of Bill Russell the other night with his 19 pts, 20 boars, and 2 blocks. And I'm not saying that he has a Bill Russell ceiling, but he is a Bill Russell type Center. He's probably never going to be a Wilt or Shaq back to the basket guy. And history has shown you can win with either type, but in a sense, basketball is probably in bigger Bill Russell phase than has been the case of the past few decades. The Knicks season ends April 10.
So there you have it Yanks and their farm revving up, the Giants looking for more Giants, the Rangers winding down and the Knicks are also winding down. Have a great one.

Sanchez already having bad BAPIP luck.
babip...
Voit is a butcher.
Voit is a DH. And I hope this eliminates the possibility of Gardner playing regularly when Hicks is healthy.
Time to score some runs.
Gardner starting is a joke.
Voit is a DH.
Disgraceful effort.
This cannot be another year where we play .500 ball against horrible teams like Baltimore.
It needs to be a pure meritocracy.
I normally don’t worry about team/individual offense until the end of May, but Gardner has shown us nothing for a long time yet they’re batting him leadoff. I get that Hicks is hurt but giving him the most at-bats isn’t smart.
Hear Paxton looked good. Didn’t Holder have peripherals that suggested he wasn’t as good as his results last year?
Paxton did look good. Voit didn't and Paxton's got undone by Voit not being able to find and field and popup. Gardy doesn't get on anymore.
Voit is a nice story but I’m skeptical. I would go with pedigree, which is Bird.
Gardner’s 2nd half should have earned him retirement and a day.
As we have said, If you aren’t good anymore, leadership is bullshit.
When you have a really young team it really helps. Gallegos, Mattingly and Boggs helped the Bernie, Jeter, Mo group grow.
Are they really strong though? They finished 10 games out last year and their non-Tanaka starters were terrible in the playoffs.
The word I used to describe the offseason was complacent. No Corbin, no impact bat added (that might solely be on Hal, who knows?)
Maybe they aren’t good enough to start declining leaders.
So Porzingis may or may not have raped a women. I’ll be honest, my default inclination is to believe alleged women victims, but that doesn’t mean I’m right, and the ability to establish facts is often hard particularly when there are power and wealth disparities.
The Knicks were aware of the alleged incident and informed the Mavs before the trade.
They're good, they were eliminated by the eventual champs in each of the last two seasons. Judge, Bird and Sanchez had long term injuries last year, too, which explains finishing 10 out though they won 100 games.
It may explain it. This season will be the tell on Bird and Sanchez. But I will always think the best players should play over declines veterans.
Gardner leading off again. This team can be comical.
When is this game going to start because the weather 20 miles to the northwest hasn’t been bad for like an hour
No one seems to know yet, so I'm stuck at home waiting. Usually, these 10am games open up my days...
Meanwhile the Rangers are beating Philly. Though it sucks for the tank, we've found the right coach, and have a ton of picks, even if we have no lottery luck again.
They must be reluctant to start Gray..I mean Happ...
Playing
Happ eats shit.
Seriously, you claim it’s WS or bust and aging Happ and. CC are 2/3 of the rotation.
I prefer larger samples.
That’s fine, but I’m not second-guessing
And we have a big sample on Gardner sucking.
Also, Tanaka and Paxton are 2/4's of the rotation. No combo is 2/3's.
Hicks should move Gardy out of the lineup.
I’m skeptical, but it shouldn’t take that
And scouts were impressed with German's new changeup this Spring, so that's exciting.
Stanton's walk rate in this smale sample - is AWESOME.
I hope they keep him and Judge back to back, but Boone had indicated he wasn’t going to with Hicks healthy
Good D by Andujar.
Shut some jerks up Bird.
Not a fucking strike
CB Buckner screwing the Yanks again.
If you can’t do your job get another job
Happ had a bad spring. It’s carrying over.
Can’t afford to not get the bats going until the later innings. If Happ gets through 3 without giving up a fifth run his day should be over.
Better D today. Let's score some runs.
There is no way smart manager bats Torres ninth
most managers don't know how to stack a lineup so that the best hitter get the most AB's.
Gardy's a disaster.
Come on, Luke. It doesn’t have to be a homerun
Gardy walks with the bases loaded, 1 in!
Judge singles home 2 more.
Stanton goes fishing like last year.... 4-3 after 4. We're waking up.
Sanchez's arm is off.
The Sanchino!
Another loss v. this shit team is unacceptable.
Wrong pitcher from the pen.
Seriously, you haven’t pitched several guys yet, and Ottavino only saw one batter yesterday. Why in the world would you pitch the guy you’re trying to break in during a close game?
Because Boone sucks. Except Cashman is too proud to admit it.
There were warnings last season and they we’re ignored...but it’s championships or bust. It’s sad.
Oh and btw, Boone sucks.
Boone does what the analytics guys tell him to do.
Still legit pissed they set Tarpley up to fail. Only thing I’m mad about honestly.
Then you think it’s on Cashman?
I would continue to say it’s early, but the Orioles are horrible. Optimistically, the Yankees may merely be bad.
I think Cashman delegates in-game decision-making power to his analytics guys and Boone is basically a spokesperson whose job it is to manage personalities.
My issue is none of them thought, “Maybe it isn’t a great idea to bring in a rookie reliever we’re trying to break into the majors into a high-leverage situation in his first regular-season appearance.” That’s just unacceptable to do that to a kid. To Tarpley’s credit, he didn’t melt down after giving up the runs.
I think this is a playoff team. If some starters in the minors surprise us and the offense learns to execute with RISP, it could be even better.
By the way the analytics department can’t be the ones telling Boone to bat Gardner first. Enough of that shit.
Ugh

Look obviously injuries have impacted them, but that means you have to play and manage with some urgency.
Good opportunity for Frazier to impress, but man, I really hope some of these guys begin filtering back in over the next month.
Definitely.
I wonder if Cashman tried to lobby Hal for big signings, or did he convince him that they weren’t necessary.
The alleged victim in the Porzingis case has a weird story; that doesn’t help her credibility, but I wasn’t there so ...
Clint Frazier said he had just landed in Scranton last night when he got the call. He (and his 2 cats) made the trip to Yankee Stadium this morning.
The cats are living it up in a NYC hotel with Clint’s mom.
Now Andujar???
This is starting to remind me of 1978, where the Yanks were all beat up in the first half, then got healthy and won the whole thing.
Of course, someone has to pitch like 78 Gator for awhile.
German was good!
Ha Gardy
So, it actually looks like Andujar might be done for the year. Hate, hate that for him.
Yeah
Good thing we have DJ
I'm guessing Wade is on the roster the rest of the season after this.
Machado and Harper wouldn’t have merely made them s super-talented teem, they would have been extraordinary insurance. It was an epic mistake not to use their financial wherewithal to sign them.
OBJ now thinks that the trade was the best thing that ever happened to him, and as long as John Mara owns this freaking team he is almost certainly right.
It shouldn’t be overlooked in Mitchell Robinson‘s double double last night that he also had four assists.
Rich, I agree, and not signing either of them also signaled to the fan base that championships were not priority No. 1. I’m less emotionally invested in the team winning as a consequence.
No Bird, no Sanchez. Both is a freakin’ clown.
Mike, as I have said, I’d love to know is this all Hal, or Cashman say we don’t need those guys.
Boone not both
Per the Inside The Empire book that was recently released, Cashman loves to shop in the “bargain bin.” On one hand, that netted them Didi, Hicks and Voit. On the other hand, I would hate to think that’s the reason we had to watch Shane Robinson as long as we did.
I do think ownership plays a part in it though. They already have a massive contract in Stanton, and teams don’t seem eager to have more than one of those. I think Harper or Machado would have been signed were it not for Stanton.
Probably all true, but the difference that they were mid-20s attached to no or very little compensation. That calls for a more flexible mindset.
If a pitcher can command the FB up and in, I don’t think Voit can handle him
Tanaka was really good, adjusting his approach based on his stuff.
Look, I’m grateful that the analytics guys found some of the players they found, but maybe they don’t need to be making in-game decisions?
Oakley says the Knights will sign Butler and Walker. Bad trolling.
Seriously this is great!
New York Yankees
@Yankees
Today, the Yankees became the 1st major North American sports team to sign on to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, the aim of which is to to bring greenhouse emissions in line with the Paris Climate Change Agreement & inspire others to take ambitious climate action.

Tulo may be hurt.
Calf strain. They f’d up by not having a realistic Didi replacement.
I think Wade is the best defensive SS they have.
Anyway, they seem to want to get a long look at Glyeber and SS and will get that chance now.
Manny hit his first Padre bomb.
I like Wade too but even a great ST couldn’t win him a job. They’re just not that into him. Although the current situation is definitely an opportunity.
2nd inning Green
Bullpen gives up anopther fricking homer.
Costly caught stealing.
What a tough day for the yanKees y’all.
18K is ridiculous. Some of these analytics “finds” may or may not have sufficient physical talent, but even the good hitters are squeezing the bat. It’s understandable to press on this situation, but ...
It would suck if Luke Voit isn't for real. It would suck way more if Gary Sanchez never hits again.
Eh, they are as banged up as I've ever seen them. They only have half of the Judge/Stanton/Gleyber/Andujar enging able to work plus no Didi and no Hicks. It'll snap back, but they have to stop making mistakes with the pen.
The players’ approach at the plate shows that they’re too tight. I thought Boone was supposed to be loosey-goosey unlike Joe. At this point give me Joe.
Sather's stepping down soon.
If Ellsbury can even stay sort of healthy he going to be on the 25 man roster
I can’t believe how bad they suck. But hey, revenues is up.
Boone barked at the ump on that bad called strike on Judge. He needs to do more, I.E. get tossed. If that’s “not who he is,” then it’s who he needs to become. Judge isn’t gonna berate an ump, so his manager needs to play the bad cop.
I didn’t watch because they bore the shit out of me but I think they won
Torres busted out, Bird showed some positive signs and Voit hit a 3-run shot. Rough first inning for Paxton but he settled in after that.
One thing I am becoming convinced about: Boone is irredeemable.
So Gleyber needs to bat in the top three spots in the lineup....NOW
Clarke Schmidt was dominant in his first High A start. Could move fast.
That was impressive.
They’re going to need reinforcements as the season wears on; I hope they’re from within.
But I don’t doubt they will make some trades that I hate. If only they can undo the Happ trade now.
Lock visited the NYG
The judge’s tweak is sort of unusual.
Disgraced sports radio host Craig Carton was sentenced to three and a half years in prison Friday in a nearly $7 million ticket resale scam meant to pay off his gambling debts — as the judge admitted she was a fan before haranguing him.
The 50-year-old shock jock begged for no prison in Manhattan federal court but couldn’t sway Judge Colleen McMahon.
“Colleen from New York. First time, long time,” the jurist greeted Carton.
Then she laced into him.
“Your marriage is over, your kids are terrified … reputation in tatters,” she said, as the dad of four sat expressionless. “Craig Carton, you have indeed descended into a hell of your own maki
The Yankees injuries were by and large (except for Tulo) unforeseeable. but their big mistake was the way they constructed the starting pitching staff. I don’t solely blame Cashman for that, but I do blame him for keeping Boone.
