This Week on the Blog

This past week, the Yanks kept dealing with injuries, the Giants traded for Zeitler, the Rangers kept keeping on and so did the Knicks.  This week could be a little more exciting.

Yankees: If the Yanks are going to do anything about adding another starter, it will probably get done this week.  There scheduled healthy starters are all over the 50 pitch mark, and so, someone who'd been out, like Dallas Kuechel, wouldn't need too much time to catch up. If they let it go much further, it would. I think the Yanks probably will do something, because I don't think they want to make up two starts per time around the rotation from what they have.  They might still be able to make a trade, but we'll have to see. I could see them letting Lasagna or German start once per rotation but don't see both of them being in it to start the season.  And a trade might let them offload Cessa, who is out of options and seems to have no organic future with the club.

Giants: Last year, the Giants start NFL Free Agency by signing Nate Solder to a big deal. Since then they drafted Will Hernandez and will announce their trade for Kevin Zeitler when the official league year starts on Tuesday or Wednesday. Will they start sign a new Right Tackle? Kevin Wheeler has been a two season bandage - which re-emphasizes just how bad Flowers had been.  This week they habve a chance to solidify that position for the foreseeable and that better be part of the plan. They could also use more pass rush and a safety or CB. That would take a lot of pressure off of their draft - where they still have 10 picks, four of which are 5ths. If they want to open more cap space they can always extend Eli for a season or Zeitler for a season or two. They should have close to 28M to start.

Rangers: the Rangers today announced the signing of 21 year old G Adam Huska.  He's a good prospect and this is the time of year when the Rangers tend to signing the past picks they need to sign. Also, Kravstov may or may not be done with his play offs and it might want to bring him over to finish the last few games. By the same token, they might not want to start his clock in the tiny part of the season that is left.

Knicks: the Knicks are just gearing up for the lottery. Kevin Knox and, most of them, really, are having trouble shooting. And we can only be bouyed by the fact that alll 3 of the rookies have been really impressive at times, and when they have been, they have joined to company of basketball immortals in their outings. Let's hope they are properly developed.

So there it is,  Yanks might need to make another pitching move, the Gianst will make a move or three, and the Rangers and Knicks keep working their way to some needed draft luck.  Have a great one!

Relying on CC was always going to be an imprudent risk and Sevy’s injury higjhlights that. So bringing him back was not smart because I don’t think they will consider Keuchel and shouldn’t for more than a year. It’s amazing they passed on Corbin and Eovaldi, well not really, because the championship bullshit Cashman recently invoked is not their primary goal.

Hicks’ back is becoming a concern as well.

With the contract revision that AB is getting from Oakland, OBJ’s is suddenly very reasonable.

Although Shepard won’t get top of the market money, he will get expensive. So given their positional talent imbalances, is he more valuable as a trade chip to shore up another area?

We'll probably draft a WR at some point.

Beat writer saying the Giants will prioritize defense and free agency

Did they re-structure or extend Eli?

Playing left tackle for the patriots it’s a pathway to riches. And somehow they will contact to replace those who left cheaply because they do most things better than other teams.

They have a good system in place that avoids the long term weak OL periods which we may be getting out of now after 8 or more year.

If they somehow trade OBJ (I don’t think they will if only because of the dead money) and it’s not almost Herschel Walker trade-esque), I am going to be freakin’ pissed.

Collins to the Redskins for 6 years, 84 mil -- 45mil guaranteed.

Anddddd we got nothing to show for it.

Sadly, I have zero confidence in this front office getting anything like that in a trade for Odell.

I think it’s a huge overpay.

It all starts and ends with Eli’s contract and John Mara being a moron for letting Jerry Reese stay so long.

The transition tag may have made more sense

Bobby Hart three years 21 million to the Bengs? What?

This is a rant.

I believe Gettleman and Shurmur were hired because they would do whatever John Mara wanted no matter what.

And they are willing to do that because nobody else would hire them for their positions except Mara.

So they had to keep Eli because that’s what Mara wanted because he regrets screwing him to start Geno Smith. And only a complete moron would do that.

If they end up trading OBJ, what’s the rationale to keep Barkley; what’s the rationale to have drafted him?

So they have an aging quarterback, no defense, no cap room, but they have to pretend to win even though they can’t.

Prove me wrong douche bag Giants.

I just heard an interview with James Dolan by Michael K. I don’t agree with the guy on much, but he’s self-effacing to a degree and that’s kind of nice compared to say the Giants owner.

He thinks top free agents will come here, he’s confident with that, but admits that time will tell.

Adam Schefter: Here are the trade terms: Giants recieve a first-round pick in 2019 (No. 17 overall), the Browns' second third-round pick this year and S Jabril Peppers, source tells ESPN. Browns get Odell Beckham Jr.

Competition over?

@BryanHoch
Here's Luke Voit, whom Aaron Boone has hitting in the cleanup spot tonight. Boone said that could carry into the season.

"I could see him possibly being in the three hole, too. I’m definitely considering him in a couple places. You could see him anywhere from third to sixth."

I hope Cessa is for real this year because he’s going to get a chance and they may need him this year if be can deliver.

ow it,” he said. [Dan Martin]
Baseball America (subs. req’d) polled scouts on players who impressed them this spring. Domingo German earned a mention. “Seeing that (changeup) to go along with the arm strength and the breaking ball, that kind of opened my eyes … I think now he has a chance to sustain being a bonafide starter,” said one of the scouts.

Two things have to happen if the Yankees are going to be a true World Series contender: German, King and Loaisiga all need to contribute quality innings, and the offense needs to start hitting with RISP.

The rotation may be a big concern if young guys don’t step up.

Actually, that’s what Mike said but I’m referring to Sevy’s injury and perhaps extended absence

It seems pretty uncertain whether Hicks will be on the opening day lineup.
