Severino Has an Inflamed Rotator Cuff

Yankee Ace, Luis Severino missed his scheduled Spring debut today due to shoulder discomfort.  They are now calling it RC inflamation, so he'll be down for weeks, not days - if all goes well - and won't be able to start on opening day. Let's hope for the best, because we are not currently equipped to replace him, unless Johnny Lasagna is ready to rock. It would be a shame to see them reach for a Kuechel, and tough to make another trade without hurting other plans.

In other news, Sonny Gray was telling anyone who would listen that his problem here was that the Yanks kept insisting he throw more sliders, when he believed he couldn't really control it and had preferred to bounce them for strike three when he had been a successful starter in Oakland. That really has to be looked out. I know the Astros are always telling pitchers to do one thing or another more, but this flat did not work.

RAB posted a graph on Twitter that more or less contradicted what Gray said.

Okay, so something flat did not work - maybe it was Gray.

To respond to Rich’s point about Corbin, to me the risk to take was on Eovaldi, not Corbin. Lesser years, best stuff.

Hoping some pitching prospects catch absolute fire this season.

Mike

I think there is some reasonable concern that Eovakdi carries a regression risk given his overall career, but I wanted him here.

As I have said, Cashman is a good GM, but his weakness has been assembling a very good to great rotation, and that’s a major reason why Boston is winning championships and the Yankees aren’t.

So I have thought this offseason has been very underwhelming. Paxton and meh.

Of the teams I root for, Cashman is by far the best GM. The NYG and NYK have been pathetically run, although the Knicks have a chance, however remote, to emphatically change that.

The Giants re~signed Tanney? I tend to think Mara is the reason they have their head up their ass with Eli. But he can’t be the reason they signed Tanney. This franchise is beyond laughable. Not a shit GM but maybe not an independent one. Shit coach. Shit owner.

Why is Gardner leading off even in spring training?

At 8:58 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Tulo and Hicks have also lead off games.

As they should. Gardner should bat 9th and play infrequently. This isn’t a charity game.

Loaisiga K's the leadoff man.

Rich, I think they're just trying to get him 3 quick AB's then lift him.

CC said he expects to begin the season on the IL. Isn’t he suspended for five games anyway?

Yes

Aaron Boone said that he believes Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisiga could both be in the rotation to begin the year. -- @BryanHoch

This headline was really misleading:

RAB. Also, Mike King (elbow) has an MRI coming up soon. Three weeks ago the Yankees shut him down and said he’ll be evaluated again in three weeks, and it’s been three weeks, so there you go.

Bird OR Voit - Boone

Thirteen pitchers is just poor roster construction. It wasn't that long ago, in fact, that 12 pitchers was considered overkill. If they're both good enough to play regularly, they should play regularly. If Stanton's legs can't be used in the outfield regularly, they never should have traded for him.

Jim Callis: “Forgot to mention Jasson Dominguez, whom the @Yankees are expected to sign on July 2. Had one scout call him ‘one of the best amateur players I have seen in my life.’ Switch-hitter with huge power and speed, does it all. Will make the NYY #Top30Prospects list, for sure.”

And the injury to Severino highlights that pissing away money on Gardner and CC was ridiculous because it limits their financial flexibility for nothing. Until and unless they start winning championships the leadership thing is bullshit.

I am so freakin sick of this shit. They make money hand over fist yet couldn’t find any for Harper or Machado. It’s a clown show.

Tanaka is working on a knuckle curve?

At 2:14 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Why not just say you’re going to compete hard. You really don’t mean many championships anymore.

Win any

The goal comes from Hal, and it’s simple: Field a profitable product. That means a winning product without breaking Luxury Tax bank. Championships, pennants and AL East titles would be nice but aren’t really necessary. Being clean shaven is, however.

But the execution below him has been good but not good enough. They spend more than enough to win more than they do.
