Sonny Gray and Clouds on the Horizon

Sonny Gray just pitched his best game as a Yankee: 8 innings of 1 run ball.  It was so good, in fact, that I might go find a picture of Sonny in a Yankee Uniform. The problem his pitchng well creates is that it puts Gary Sanchez of the bench. And right now Gary is red hot. Romine, btw, just had his annual good game at the plate, but not as good as Gary's yesterday, and why would anyone want to slow Gary down?  Once they get 20 over, they better start working Sonny with Gary, because no one, unless they are an imbecile, wants to see Austin Romine in a playoff game.

In other news, the Tyler Austin just had his second two homer game of the season.  He has 8 homers in about 93 AB's and they cannot send him down when Bird comes back later this week.  Oh and Andujar is hot again and has been great at 3rd, so they can't send him down. Torres and Walker can cover all the Torreyes rolls. So what do they do?

UPDATE: Erik Swanson, he of the 5-0 record and .45 era in AA, has been promoted to AAA.  This is a hard throwing horse, who could really solve a problem for the big league Yanks this year.

Sanchez would have likely been off anyway with the day game after a night game.

That used to only be for old catchers.

After getting 4 hits? They are lucky they played an awful team. That obscured a really questionable thought process.

Clint sent down. That’s annoying.

But Hicks gets to tease forever.

It's annoying that they didn't forestall the Clint move till Bird was ready. Crap that Gardy played instead of Frazier today.

Clint is blocked, I get it. But I agree he deserved to play today.

If he is destined to get traded — and that seems likely at the moment — then it needs to be for Mad Bum. Not Jeff Weaver, not Javy Vazquez, not Michael Pineda, not Sonny Gray. Mad Bum.

(I would also accept Freddie Freeman or Ronald Acuña, not that the Braves would trade either.)

Hicks sucks, and needs to be the one moved, plain and simple. cashman not every move you make is great pal.

The next trade Cashman makes for a top pitcher will be his first.

Frazier needs to play every day and that will be in SWB.

It will be interesting to see if he plays any CF in SWB.

He is our best trade chip to land a SP.

That is just media-driven nonsense. He is better than Hicks, granted that’s a low bar.

Why Hicks isn’t ever rumored in trades? No team wants him.

Any trade for a significant pitcher will cost Frazier, Sheffield, and other highly rated prospects, causing a big talent deficit for a quick fix.

Smart people would let this grow organically.

Of course, two years ago mediots said Sanchez had to be traded because he was blocked by McCann.

If you want to fix the pitching, start by getting rid of Rothschild.

The pitching can and should be fixed in house. Sheffield and Swanson are damn close to ready, assuming Sheff's bulllpen was fine and he can go again.

If you can get a true No. 1 — someone who wouldn't falter under the limelight of New York City — I think you have to do it. I feel the same if you can get a top-tier center fielder or first baseman. The fact of the matter is not every one of their prospects is going to have room on the big-league club. If one of the three things I mentioned is acquired for prospects, I don't think Cashman would be making a mistake.

Here’s why I disagree. Because pitchers are fragile you would rather not commit big dollars to them let alone give up important young players. So I would stay in house for pitching and see how it goes.

Oh and on 1B, I would give Bird all season to establish himself. If he hasn’t by then, then Austin might be a guy.

CF? I would have to see the specifics.

Kahnle making a rehab start in Charleston tonight. Need him to solidify the BP so guys only go one inning and are kept fresh.

Bird and Frazier have already homered for Scranton tonight... We need them both.

All these diagnoses of Didi, but none on this broadcast mention approach/discipline.
If you are selective you were going to get better pitches to hit and you’re going to walk. He did it in April and is not doing in ITV May.
