Cole Hamels?
So Twitter is alive with a possible Cole Hamels to the Yanks for Chance Adams and Thairo Estrada. I've seen that mix a couple of places now, and I wonder if it's true. Hamels was once darn good, and after a bad season last year and a balky first few starts this year, he's got his K rate back to his career norms of about 9K per 9ip. That can only auger good things. Of course, if we were the Astros, we'd acquire him and he'd suddenly better than he was in his prime. Anyway, the Yanks are on his no-trade list, so he'd have to drop that, and I wouldn't want them adding any inducements, as they once did for Randy Johnson. If they can get this done for what would be a system neutral trade, like the one proposed, because Chance has not been great since 2016 and Thairo is pretty darn blocked, as well as shot up, why not? It would mean not having to rush Justus Sheffield, as well as giving Justus and Monty another valuable mentor, just as Cliff Lee had been for a young Cole.
Okay, more reports that it could look like Chance Adams, Josh Rogers and two lower level guys. Of course does that mean from A ball or lower talent level. The devil could be in the details in this one.
Former scout Alexander Richards reports that the two teams are talking, while Heyman has also mentioned what it might look like.

Just don’t trade Frazier or Sheffield for anyone. They have to pretend about Hicks, but that’s all it is.
I saw that Twitter but didnt know how credible that source is but that is a good deal.
Depends if Hamels accepts the deal without the Yanks picking up the option for next year.
Saves our bullets for additional targets such as Herrera or Archer using Frazier for the latter.
Archer would cost Sheffield, Frazier, German, plus. So.....No
Sheffield > Frazier if he can control the strikezone.
If we get Hamels, I don't see the need to trade for another starter.. Just call up Sheffield and expose him to CC and Hamels for finishing school. CC has already been mentoring him via text.
The issue isn’t Sheffield v Frazier.
It’s Hicks v. Frazier.
Hicks is a role player. Frazier can be a star.
Girardi used to say hitting comes and goes while pitching is a constant.
Not only is that bullshit, because pitchers slump too, it conveniently overlooks the fragility of pitchers.
Problem is that Frazier is projected as a LF'er and Hicks is a CF'er.
I agree with Sheffield coming up in July and CC can mentor him.
Gardner plays CF, Frazier rotates with Stanton at DH and LF.
On one hand, I do think Hamels has the mental capacity to handle New York (I think NY had gotten into Gray’s head, for comparison). On the other hand, some of his peripherals make me question whether Hamels is as good as his ERA. As usual, it’ll depend on what they give up.
I’m on the same Frazier Train as Rich. It’s time to challenge him.
I'd be comfortable with Gardy in CF and Clint in LF. Not a Hicks fan.
Always been a fan of Fraser, need to see what he can become, we've already seen Hicks...I think Fraser will be better.
Hicks is fine as a low-cost, hold-the-spot CF before a better option is available/ready, but you can’t have too much offense, and Frazier likely provides that.
Frazier just can't play CF and since we lost Slade Heathcott, Jake Cave, Mason Williams and Dustin Fowler, we're not crawling with CF's at the higher levels that were just a phone call away, like we used to be.
Still babying Gray with Romine catching him. I’m OK with Romine playing given his hot start, but it really is time to put this personal catcher nonsense to bed.
Looking for a bright side, at least Romine is hitting.
What would Wacha cost??
Yeah, I have no problem playing Romine in general, it’s the babying of Gray that I have issue with.
Definitely.
Seems like a lot of rainouts.
Do any of the teams we root for currently have a player whose head is up his ass as deep as JR Smith? I’m thinking no...
Multiple Giants last year, but that was a complete one off.
Heh. Yeah.
Any contract offer by any team would need serial team options/opt-outs. Insurance will be crazy expensive.
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw threw five useful innings today in his return from the DL, but the outing did not end quite as hoped. He’s headed for an MRI after experiencing back tightness during the outing, skipper Dave Roberts tells reporters including Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
Never heard of him before:

He is good when healthy
That’s what we used to think about Sonny Gray.
