One Week Till

Yankee Draft Time! Ten days from now the Yanks will have picked 40 more guys.  Buy July, they will have signed 25 to 30 of them.  You remember the current drill.  MLB gives you a pool number based on total picks and draft position.  The pool is the pick value of all the picks you have in the first ten rounds.  The Yanks don't have any comp balance of FA comp picks, so they only have 10.  Plus, they are picking 23rd so their pool number will be bottom 10 throughout the league.  And that shouldn't get them off their game at all.

Even will all of the deals they've made over the last 11 months or so, once the short season teams open early in June, we'll be amazed at the majesty of what they have been doing.  They have a ton of recent prep arms and bats, as well as like 40 new IFA's, some of whom have huge ceilings.  Their swing and miss/spin rate pitching drivers are helping them find better pitchers, and their patience and pop hitting model has been closely followed. On the posotions side they will occasionally take a chance on "an athlete" like Dom Thompson-Williams or something, but mostly they're looking for exit velo and walks.

Rumor has it that the Yanks have been beating the bushes for prep bats this year, but we know they'll just take 35 RHP's or something.  Can't wait.

Trading competitive balance picks is a backdoor to the eventual trading of all picks.

Didi moved down, Gleyber up.

By seasons end Torres should be hitting lead off if not 2nd

For some reason I thought the MLB Draft was late June, not early June.

I’ve said before Torres is a future leadoff hitter by virtue of him possibly being the best hitter on the team.

I can envision a lineup of Torres, Florial, Judge, Bird, Sanchez. Stanton, Frazier, Andujar, Future 2Bman

Billy Martin would have tried to expose Verlander’s possible cheating.

At 10:38 AM, Blogger Rich said...

It’s on German that he threw a meatball but the ump screwed him earlier in the count and with the beardo AB too.

Torres made a baserunning erros, a la Toe. That said German had a nice bounce back and the infield hit before was a Didi error.

At 11:07 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's like they haven't seen Verlander before. The stuff ain't that amazing and I don't know why people are going on with his late career improvement.

SHeffield has 4 K's through 3, they gave up a run but don't lnow if it was earned.

At 11:10 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Checked it was an earned run. He also gave up 4 hits and a walk through 3. Scranton is up 3-1.

At 11:14 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Torres has lost his mind lately.

Bad defense, bad luck

At 11:20 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's ridiculous. But we can come back.

At 11:21 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Justus is 1 run through 4. Had one of those first innings where he threw a lot pf pitches apparently.

At 11:21 AM, Blogger Rich said...

If Gray was what was expected the entire rotation would be viewed differently.

At 11:36 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Torres with a great play!

At 11:44 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Time to stop pretending Hicks is good.

At 11:47 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

He's a good defender.

At 11:52 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I see him as a 4th OFer

At 11:52 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Thought Walker might do something.

At 11:56 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I hope they remain patient with German and DON’T trade him. He is very close.

At 12:04 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I see him as a place holder, but our organizational depth in CF has got a big kink in the conga line. So they probably won't trade him this year. Maybe this offseason.

At 12:07 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That’s why I think trade talk is way premature reflecting a magic fix, fantasy baseball mindset. Trades for SP are usually expensive and risky.

At 12:07 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Gleyber

At 12:21 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Unless you’re Houston and are either able to do things Rothschild can’t sniff or cheat very effectively.

At 12:23 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Got to start scoring.

At 12:24 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Justus just pitched 4 innings again. So I guess the plan is to stretch him out.

At 12:25 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

His ERA is 1.65.

At 12:26 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Clint Frazier is 3-3. Three singles and two stolen bases.

At 12:29 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

BIRD!!!!!!!

We can do this!

At 12:37 PM, Blogger Rich said...

We need Frazier here baaaad.

At 12:38 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Don't have a move to make. Have to wait for something else to happen.

At 12:39 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That’s why I would trade Hicks.

At 12:50 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Then we onlty have one CF.

At 1:07 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Frazier needs to be on the big league club. The light appears to have come on and Gardner/Hicks can platoon in center.

At 1:12 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Who do you move? It's a 25 man roster.

At 2:00 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Move down a pitcher that isn’t getting any work anyway.

At 2:25 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'd like to see a 12 man staff, too, but they are rare. Shreve is not someone we need to see anymore of, for example.

At 3:27 PM, Blogger Rich said...

As long as they are an offense-centric team (which I prefer) Frazier is probably a must play.

At 3:53 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I remember back in `87, I think, they had to keep havind Rick Cerrone come in and pitch.

At 4:59 PM, Blogger Rich said...

‘87 was around the time of the hideous Drabek for Rhoden trade that sucked at time except to fans who think every prospect is a mere lottery ticket. Sadly, back then George was one of those fans.

RAB, dumb as fuck

Take any five players not on the MLB roster and give the Yankees deGrom kthx

At 7:08 PM, Blogger NYTerry said...

Rich, agreed minus Flores and Fraser.....I'd throw in Hicks, Ellsbury, Montgomery and $20 M.

At 7:40 AM, Blogger Rich said...

RAB fact gathering is what they do best:

2. There were lots of whiffs and chases. German’s stuff is so good. He has three lively pitches with velocity and movement, and, in the case of his fastball, a very high spin rate. German threw 104 pitches yesterday and got 16 swings and misses. Many of those swings and misses came on pitches out of the strike zone too:

According to Coley Harvey, German coaxed 25 swings on pitches out of the strike zone yesterday, which is the most this season by a Yankees’ starter and the most by an opposing starter against the Astros. The Astros as a team have a 28.2% chase rate this season, only of the lowest in baseball. German had them expanding the zone all day yesterday, and remember, they saw him a few weeks ago. It’s not like he was a mystery.

The swings and misses and all those chases are a testament to the quality of German’s stuff. He generated swings and misses with all three pitches, which is not easy to do. Not against the Astros. This isn’t some nothing stuff spot starter like Aaron Small or Sidney Ponson or Darrell Rasner. German has a power arsenal that is worth a longer look, to see whether he’ll ever be able to command it.

I would have Gray go back to whatever he was doing in Oakland
