Rangers at the Combine
So while the rest of us are remembering heroes past, the NHL is running it's combine. Very Canadian of them, but the combine and International Play are to the Rangers as Wood Bat League play is to the Yankees. Not only was their choice of Chris Kreider largely determined by both, but their acquisition of McDonagh in the Scott Gomez trade was based on his blowing the doors off of the combine. I don't think the Rangers respect all amateur league play, so they use the combine to validate ability, whereas the NFL uses the combine to validate the production they saw in games and on film.
I think there's absolutely no doubt that they will trade up from 9 (they're loaded to do so), not only because the brought back B+ talent and not necessarily A's in their trades, but because they squandered so many picks acquiring final pieces in their last run, their system is a little trashed. Though, I will say that's also partially because they traded prospects on their run, too.
Excting times and Gorton keeps saying.
