Girardi's Out

For the 2018 season, the Yankees will have a new manager.  Let me start by saying, I really appreciate that Joe Girardi was able to win a World Series for the Yanks, and I will now go back to liking him as I do just about all ex-Yankees.  And I wish him only the best in the future.  Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if they keep the search in-house or look aroud a little more.  I Al Pedrique, who manages AAA, is very popular among the young Yanks who played there, and Rob Thompson has seemed to be popular among the front office.  We'll also have to see what the coaching staff looks like, since, I believe all of their contracts are up.

Thomson would be very uninspiring. Any team could haved him as manager for like 25 years and didn’t. I want something outside the box.

Sounds like this was all Cashman...

And as I have said, great pitching coaches are a scarce commodity. Adding one, even if it means making them a manager, could provide a tangible advantage.

Cashman has achieved what Hal has always wanted: a young team that can win and save him money. That had to give him a great deal of currency, no pun intended, with Hal and family.

After 2018 the payroll will likely spike with an addition or two from the mega free agent class. Hal needs to stop treating like a business, and run it like a team.

Seems like it might be Jay Bell, who managed Tampa this season and is now managing the Yankee prospects in the AFL. I think the new coaching staff could also be culled from the organization to a large extent, like Buck's was.

As long as they keep producing young talent, I don’t care if they spend tons of money.

@BrendanKutyNJ
Talked to some within/outside org. Seemed minor disagreements w/ front office added up last couple years, finally broke the camel's back.

I'm very curious to know what these disagreement were, because it could inform us what they want in a manager.

Guesses
1) Sanchez’s defense
2) Inflexible in bullpen roles
3) Torreyes over Wade
4) Pulled young starters too quickly
5) Way too differential to veterans

I personally think he stayed too way long, but I will give him credit for pulling Severino when he was moving his arm around. That was selfless.

The next manager at least early on will do exactly what Cashman wants.
