Yanks Call Up Mason Williams

Because of the injury to Aaron Judge, the Yanks have called up Mason Williams.  I was a little disappointed when he wasn't called up on 9/1, but with Hicks, Gardy and Ells around they can only take so many I guess.  Refs is barely getting AB's and no one great is blocking him.

Anyway, Mason, if he can stay healthy, will have a much better MLB career than MiLB career, which was marred by injuries and some growing up issues.  He started to become the tooled up CF the Yanks believed he'd be two years ago and forced a promotion last year, but then hurt his shoulder and missed much of this year.  He is immediately the best defensive OF on the team, and that include Gardy and Ells, and his offensive upside is still there, and will probably play up in YS and now that he's grown into his talent.  I'm really glad he's getting this chance, though I'm disappointed that it's because Judge got hurt.

I was unaware of this:

Since the 8/1 trades:

Chapman/Miller: 8 ERs in 39.1 IP.

Clippard/Warren: 8 ERs in 39.2 IP.

So Hal having insisted on Clippard has proven wise.

If anything, Clippard is on a great 1 year deal next year too.

I can't say Judge was finding it before the oblique, but he seemed to be recalibrating in a positive direction.

Jack Curry loves Refs.

What a CF of a half inning.

Clippard will make a good 7th inning guy next year with Chapman or Jansen closing

Same facts, Preller trades Pomeranz to the Yankees. Would he be suspended?

Gut-wrenching loss. Betances is either in a rough patch or he simply isn't cut out to be a closer.

It sucked, but it's not real life. So I was sick for a moment, now I'm fine

Oh and they left the village on base all night, including Refs.

Maybe they should just shut Betances down and face reality about playoff chances. But since they sold at the deadline, I'm willing to cut them some slack in trying to contend late since the team has actually won since the July 31 deadline.

Hicks should be back with the Rays' series and hopefully he will pickup where he left off in RF.

I can see Gardner traded in the offseason allowing Hicks to play LF in 2017 until Frazier is ready.

I'd rather play Mason Williams

Also, Cashman has said that the Judge has to compete to start next year. He hasn't said that about Sanchez, obviously. So I assume there will be an open competition that will include Hicks, maybe Williams, and who knows maybe if Frazier has a knockout spring training he starts. They probably aren't going to get what they want for Gardner in a trade (he's no longer young and has lost his power). Whether they're willing to accept what they can get a move on, I don't know.

But as much as last nights game sucked, and even if they don't make the playoffs, they have begun what should've been started in 2010 or 2011, and as long as they don't trade a boatload of prospects for pitching, they're doing it the right way.

I only hope Judge gets the same long leash Hicks has inexplicably gotten.

Thanks, Ben.

Mike,

You would think so.

Cashman is very into tools. When he was asked during a rain delay this week about Castro, he was effusive, even though he was hot last season for a while too around mostly sucking. Granted, when he is making contact, he's quite good, but like Didi and Hicks, he has little plate discipline, which is a troubling theme of Cashman's recent acquisitions. All have talent, but if they aren't hitting well, they are useless at the plate.

I would have played Williams.

The real yankyfan would never sign Jansen and forfeit a draft pick for a closer .You're off on that one for sure.

With the way starting pitchers keep getting injured, I'm not sure I'd be willing to trade for one. Instead, I'd like to see them keep amassing numbers on the farm and letting the cream rise to the top. It's cheaper and less disruptive when one gets hurt.
