Yanks Trade Ben Gamel

Yanks today have traded Ben Gamel to the Mariners for RHP's Gio Orozco (19) and Juan DePaulo (18).  This is a pretty nice return to alleviate the log jam of OF's the Yanks have on the 40 man roster and on the horizon.  Orozco, especially, looks like he has upside, but is a ways away.  Really nice ecology.

Yesterday the Yanks decided on OF Tito Polo and LHP Stephen Tarpley to complete the Ivan Nova trade.  Both are intriguin as Polo is smallis and fast with emerging power and Tarpley is a lefty with some arm strength.

Gardner and Ellsbury's contracts are also playing a role in this move.

Good move to sell high on Gamel.

No rush to unload McCann to Atl now...wait until the offseason.

I would still move McCann in the right deal

Selling high could mean giving him a ML opportunity. We don't yet know if they sold high or low.

Selling high as in Montero before he fizzled out when given an opportunity to play in MLB.

I think this is clearing the 40 man roster, Gamel was great but we have alot like him in our system. I think Gardner gets traded in the Off Season. Ellsbury might feel more at home somewhere else than a rebuilding team, Yanks eat salary and trade him.

My guess is they would to eat at least $10m a year. That's s pretty big order.

Torres will play 2B in the AFL.

Some other stuff too, but I'm not sure if it is accessible since LoHud thought it was a good idea to cut down on Jennings readership:

OT, the Giants' D surprised to the upside this preseason. The O was very, very disappointing.

We will see if that turns out to predictive over the course of the season.

I like the Holder call up - shows they're committed to making a run this year.

I agree given the roster implications.

LHP Justus Sheffield: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 49 of 80 pitches were strikes (61%) … very nice Double-A debut … 1.50 ERA with a 36/13 K/BB in 30 innings since the trade
