Yanks: Blake Promoted to Pulaski

Looks like I'll be holding off for a GCL Review rather than preview.  The Yanks today have promoted Blake Rutherford to Pulaski.  Blake had gone from ice cold to start his Yankee career to red hot the past few days, so they moved him.  This makes Pulaski even more freakishly loaded than it was yesterday.  And with Blake having turned nineteen in May, he's age appropriate for the Pulaski team where he's actually older than Dermis Garcia.  There's a pretty good chance those two will be hitting 3-4 for the Yanks someday, so they should write them in that way today.  Bat Wilkerman second or first.

I suspect he,started off ice cold because he hadn't been playing for a while and because of pro pitching is a step up from what he was seeing in high school. Once he got adjusted, he's been doing fine.

Oops, didn't see mbn's comment saying the same thing. Well, I'm in good company this time.

RS got Pomeranrz. Not sure what they gave up, not salary it would seem, but that's the kind of starter Cashman covets.

Lawyer, I know you'll disagree with me on this, but if the Yankees do sell, I think it should be pitching they primarily target, unless they can get a top-tier 3B prospect. The system has a lot of ifs on the pitching side right now, and the really good free agency class is still several years away. By contrast, the Yankees have a lot of good positional prospects.

Mike

The problem with targeting pitching is the fragility, and with this GM's moves for pitching, stuff over pitchability.

So yes, I have very little confidence in him, but I view the issue the way I view the draft: best player available regardless of position.

In addition, the position players that he might acquire may be defense first, so that doesn't help.

Tools over just being a baseball player:

Giving up on Aaron Hicks isn’t an option for the Yankees.

The struggling outfielder is out of options and can’t be sent to the minor leagues to get regular playing time that could help him escape the season-long funk he has been in.

“He is obviously a talented player. He is out of options so he has to figure it out at the big league level,’’ GM Brian Cashman said of the 26-year-old outfielder, who is batting .197 with three homers, 17 RBIs and a .562 OPS. “He is extremely talented. He has to get the ball in the air more. There have been a lot of groundball outs. We will see where he takes it, but we aren’t giving up on him.’’

Hicks has made 71 outs on the ground and 51 in the air, not including line drives.

When Hicks was acquired from the Twins for John Ryan Murphy, the Yankees were attracted to his ability to hit lefties, but he is batting an anemic .155 (11-for-71) with a .443 OPS against them.

Perhaps Mason won't come up until September.

Dermis Garcia's strikeout totals alarms me, Great for Rutherford!

Dermis is just eighteen, so they have some time to get his K zone under control. He's a tireless worker.

Gurriel to the Astros. Probably the one guy I felt they should acquire (since it would only cost money) if they were serious about trying to make a run.

So, it's sell, or be stupid.

I never thought they would sign him because I didn't know where they would play him. The Castro contract sucks for numerous reasons, and it was forseeable at the time of the trade.

Headley's as well. There's just suboptimal decision-making at all levels.

I was hoping that Gurriel would give the Yanks a chance to trade Headley before deciding.

Losing Gurriel hurts but they really didnt have a spot for him unless they unloaded Headley.

If any ever makes a good offer Pineda, take it. He is what he is, a tease. Maybe some pitching coach unlocks it, but not happening here.

NJ.com Discussing extending Chapman. I call bullshit

You don't trade Evo when he is pitching poorly.

Gurriel signed for four years. Signing him to trade Headley doesn't change things much in my book. I'd like to see Andujar not be blocked when he's ready for the bugs.

Buster Olney:
Sources: The Yankees have been exchanging names on their players for weeks, as reported. But ownership hasn't decided whether to sell.

I'm telling y'all, it's a mistake to get our hopes up.

They will sell some stuff. I'm pretty confident of that.

So Hal is still selling tickets...to RS fans.
