This Week on the Blog
Okay, this was an interesting but a bit of a disappoining week. The Knicks have seemed to have switched plans, the Rangers may not have a plan, the Yanks keep rattling their swords about buying at the deadline, and the Giants still haven't addressed their OL. Let's hope this week is better.
Knicks: The Knicks didn't wait around for Durant as Hamlet. Instead they signed one of my favorite players, Joakim Noah to a four year 72 million dollar deal. We haven't seen the structur because of the league rules regarding July 7th. Idiocy. Anyway, the Knicks are still looking for a wing player to play the two and a back up PG. Lee seems their first choice for wing, but there's also been noise about Eric Gordon and Dwayne Wade. Today, in Orlando, Phil Jackson casually mentioned he can make more cap room if he wants to.
While Herrring over and the Wall Street Journal thinks this is a change of horses for the Knicks, it's really the only course of action that makes sense. Here's why: the draft sucked. So it was no time to trade Melo for a youth and a #1 pick. However; in `17 the Knicks start owning their picks again. And Melo's trade kicker kicks in, so it'll be easier to get him to waive. What's more, Rose goes off the books. So, at the end of this season, the Knicks will have KP, Joakim and probably the 2 guard, for sure and their own one, and maybe more if the trade Melo. Even better, if the injury risk guys all miss time, the team will a higher pick, and Melo might even become available and the deadline. So, it's not all that bad. Could be really fun if they stay healthy and make the playoffs.
UDATE: Courtney Lee is the 2. He brings 3's and D. The Knicks will have a good D, and KP and Willy will have good defenders to learn from in Noah and Lee. Both KP and Willy are plenty willing, so we should see good results.
Rangers: It really feels like they were ready to make room for Stamkos, but since he didn't enter the market, they kept their power dry. They still need to fix their cap, so their probably will be trades, but they have some time. They also need to recoup young players and picks. They once again got nice value in the draft.
Yanks: They signed Blake! This could be the beginning of a very frustrating month, because not only are the Yanks unwatchable and need to sell, but the more and more of the farmhands are starting to look ready. Nuttiness. Also, today being the 7/2, the Yanks started welcoming new IFA's. They are still in the penalty but seem to have landed the top Dominican pitcher in the class, and they also added another good catcher and SS. During the first year of the penalty, they added 56 guys. Let's see what they do this time. And let's continue to marvel at the great job Donny Rowland and his scout team are doing down there.
Giants: Giant's still haven't addressed the OL, and camps starts on 7/28.
Have a safe and sane 4th, peeps, and a great week to boot!

Make Rowland the GM. The current one is a prisoner of his ego.
There was and is no easy path for the Knicks as a result of so much prior incompetence by Grunwald and even Walsh.
So I would say that the Knicks under/over this year is about 45 games.
Cashman doesn't run this team. Levine and Hal does.
Love LEE as our SG. Team looks playoff caliber if they can stay on the court.
That's ridiculous. It's not credible to believe that Hal and Levine want a pitching and defense first team.
The Yanks have a bunch of good execs/scouts in the minors who might someday make good GM's.
And per Yankyfans statement. I think it's Hal Levine and Girardi, and you bet your ass Girardi is all about pitching a defense.
Refs with the assist, but it might get reversed...
Cashmsn himself has made the keys to the kingdom statement. He isn't held hostage by Girardi. He hired him because he agrees with him.
YF, honest question l: If Hal and Levine are calling the shots, what would you say it is Cashman does, exactly?
Hicks back, so I hope they lose. Short term pain for long term gain.
I read that Refs threw a runner out at the plate last night. BFD to the clown car manager and GM.
Hicks got a hit. So a five year contract is being prepared by lawyers.
3-3 Cashman baseball porn.
Yanks interested in Matt Moore.
Depends on the price it would a good move.
Westbrook next summer?
Evo to the peno
People are correctly making the point that the cap decreases parity. Since stars' can't get full market value, they go to a handful of teams with the best chance to win.
So the Knicks have to make themselves one of those attractive destinations, and that is obviously dependent on health and KP taking a big step forward.
B. Jennings
Anomaly game. Hicks back to sucking. A rare good game for Castro.
Refs just solid.
Phil having a very good offseason in my opinion
I understand all the moves, except I like DWill more than Lance Thomas.
Don't think the Knicks have enough cap space to sign DWill. Knicks were able to use early Bird rights on LT.
Oh? Thanks.
This article mentions Thomas contract and the early bird rights ..

Actually this is a better article explaining the cap space maneuvering.

The Knicks have reached an agreement with Mindaugas Kuzminskas, sources confirm. Kuzminskas, 26, is a 6-9 forward from Lithuania. -- @IanBegley

Phil is cleaning up, and leaving us with future flexibility
New post on the Knicks doings.
It's still not clear that Refs is a ton better than Hicks?

Goodness knows I'm as critical of Yankees player development as anyone, but dude, you haven't hit well since April (he hit just OK in May).
