Ranger FA Stuff

NHL free agency has started and the Rangers have been dumster diving.   They got Michael Grabner, the former Islander and Leaf who is considered one of the fastest guys in the league, though he lacks all other stuff.  They also signed shrimpy Nathan Gerbe, who's good on the kill, and nothing else.  And signed Adam Clendening, a former 2nd round defenseman who will probably be in Hartford.  I think it's clear that once Stamkos wasn't hitting the market, the Rangers took a step back.  They still have to get their cap in order, protect the RFA's and hopefully gather more picks, so I'd assume sooner or later we'll see some trades.  Conservative on Day 1, so far.

UPDATE: Later in the day, the Rangers dove back into the dumpster and found another RHS D in Mike Paliotta.  He'll be in Hartford.  Waiting.  Like we are, but hopefully not dreading, like we are.

It sounds like what the Giants have done to compensate for draft issues, although unlike the Giants, they didn't whiff on picks, they just burned them as if they were worthless.

To their credit, the Giants haven't sacrificed the future for the present, at least since the Craig Morton for the pick that became Randy White bullshit of the mid 70s.

Despite this recent down period, I have to respect them for not engaging in that fatuousness.
