Knicks FA Stuff

Joakim Noah posted this earlier today, and now is said to be meeting with Phil Jackson and Steve Mills in Orlando.  So who knows when this will happen and when it will be announced.  Then all sorts of wing rumors have flown around today including Courtney Lee, Eric Gordon, and lately Dwayne Wade have popped up.  The Knicks are also supposed to meet with Austin Rivers for their back up PG job, though I find it hard to believe that they can't find a commensurat or superiore talent among the undrafteds DLeague or overseas crew, especially if they get a good fifth starter and FA's want to jump aboard to make a run at the playoffs. We'll see.  Everyone's worried about the presumptive Wade money, but the Knicks can make more room if they need it.

Noah is a Knick and they are reporting it's for 4/72.   The structure is not yet available.

I kinda get a felling Noah is in on accepting what the Knicks can give, while allowing them to get other talent to make the better team. That IMO is probably the holdup. Waiting on what SG they can get for whatever amount.

I doubt he accepts anything lower than $15M a year. Knicks will likely announce the signing of 2-3 of their FA signings together.

I have a feeling Wade wants out of Miami and sees the Knicks as an emerging team that he can fit on.....We can Thank KP for making the Knicks desirable again!.

It's as if Melo is calling the shots.

Sure feels that way, and maybe Rose. KP doesn't know anyone.

Melo was irrelevant last year in recruiting players, players want to win, not play with friends. . KP has gotten the respect around the league and is a player unlike any other in the NBA. I think the combo of three known talents (Melo, KP, Rose) on the Knicks makes them relevant to FA's who want to play on a team capable on winning.

Rose is not known as a recruiter but I'm sure Noah is comfortable having played with him and likely wants to play for his home town team that is looking like a capable winner.

Having Noah on the verge of signing makes the Knicks attractive to any FA, four legitimate NBA past/present/future All Stars.

I'm referring to the shift in timelines of the build, from young pieces around KP to older ones around Melo remaining high level years.

I think we start building around KP next summer, when we have picks and more cap room.

Read the Herring article. Makes sense, and we can organically start building around KP next summer. Though Willy's coming over now and that's a start.

What they are doing is fairly high risk, but it could work. I hope they hedge that risk with their SG signing.

Speaking of which, I had forgotten that DeRozen was drafted one pick after the Knicks drafted Hill.

ESPN sources say the Knicks have made a four-year offer to Courtney Lee, but Lee has a variety of suitors and is working through the options

The Knicks' offer to Courtney Lee is north of $10 million per year for 4 years, per sources. Many in the Knicks organization would love to see Lee sign, but New York will have competition from teams that can probably offer a contract with a higher annual value. Lee is considering other offers. After signing Joakim Noah, the Knicks project to have at least $12 million in cap space. That cap space can increase, of course, if they trade a player to a team that has enough cap space to absorb the contract. In addition to Lee, the Knicks have shown interest in Austin Rivers and Eric Gordon, per sources. They have also had contact with Dwyane Wade, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
