Yanks Take College Bat Nick Solak in 2

Now this is weird, in the second, the Yankees took All-American Nick Solak, another guy who can really rake.  Solak played 2B at Louisville, where he was also the Captain,  but might be an outfielder in the pros. Sort of an inversion of the Rob Refsnyder story. This is really only weird because they haven't taken a pitcher yet.  I think this is the first time they've gone hitter/hitter since Slade and JR several years ago.  So it is unusual and I have no problem at all with them taking another really good hitter in round two.  I'm not sure he was projected to go this high, so there could be some slot savings, but as we all agree, this is a red chip or B player draft, and that's the kind of guy Nick Solak is.  Btw, both Blake and Nick have been big perfomers on big stages throughout their careers, and that's always good for guys who have a chance to be Yanks.  He was hitting .461 before he got hit by a pitch and missed some time earlier this season.  Good pick.

Probably a money-saving pick, which if it lands them Rutherford I'm totally fine with.

Rutherford is going to cost a lot so this is a good under slot deal for a good hitter

Yeah, but it's not a dumped pick for money. The cat can hit and run, and takes his walks and can beat out basehit bunts. I remember before the scout upgrades, when we couldn't find guys like this that were bargain values.
