Yankees Draft, Day One
Behold the stadium swing of prep OF Alex Kirilloff. I wasn't thinking he'd make it to the Yanks, but now it looks like he might. Frankie P. who's been covering the draft closely for years now from a variety of platforms linked the Yanks with the Pittsburgh prep this morning on Twitter. So, how might he be available?
This is very clearly a red chip draft. Baseball scouts might call it a "B" draft. B players are generally unfinished, but with upside. Robinson Cano was a B prospect, for example. Anyway, because it's B draft teams with multiple picks like Atlanta and San Diego appear to be making deals with kids like Ian Anderson at 3 and Cal Quantrill at 8, that will take them off the board earlier than they were expected to go, and for significant pool savings. Ian Anderson reportedly wants 3M and the slot for 3rd overall is worth over 6M, so it will be a significant savings.
Anyway, moving prospects up for financial benefit will push other prospect further down, toward the Yanks.
About today, I'll be in an out and will probably keep updating this post until we make our pick. Then over the next two days I'll do my summaries and previews as well and introducing the most intriguing picks and summarizing the swaths of seniors they'll take as groups.
Enjoy!

Looking forward to your insight Phil despite my overall pessimism surrounding the team at the moment.
OT, but have you heard anything about where Estefan Florial is supposed to play this season?
Very excited, I'd prefer a bat with our 1st. Really like Kirilloff, was disappointed when I did not hear the Yanks linked to him. Also like Benson, might be "rated" lower than the Yankees pick but he'll never make it to their 2nd pick, unless they acquire a pick?
I also am looking forward to your insights!
Alex has a hitch. I would beware!!
That's not as bad for a teenager as Reynolds crappy contact is for a 21 year old.
Btw, Florial had some injury in EST and I'm not sure where they are starting him.
With regard to your point on the other thread, they don't have one starting position player other than Gardner who was drafted. They don't have one starter in the rotation who was drafted. It's inexcusable and a shared failure by every person involved.
Rob Refsnyder would be starting but for our shithead manager. Phil Hughe and IPK are starters elsewhere, so is Austin Jackson. We've turned a bunch of starters into relievers like Whtiley and Warren and they have jobs as do several other players. Nunez is having a breakout year, even though he was an IFA and not a starter.
Agreed ! That's why I go arm at 18.
Damn Braves just took the War Child.
Also Dellin Betances had figured it out as a starter before they turned him into a dynamic reliever.
Another power Prep arm gone, in Riley Pint.
The kid from Mercer is falling a bit as Corey Ray goes before him.
Braxton Garret gone, another good prep arm.
Padres took Cal Quantrill. Most of my favorite first round pitching targets are gone.
Tigers take Matt Manning.
Sox take the free falling Groome. Hope he goes to school.
Rays take Josh Lowe... 5 more picks.
Twins take Alex K. Angels then us.
