Yanks Recall The Grinder

The Yanks today recalled Rob Refsnyder and James Pazos.   Pazos needs consistency, and Refs needs consistent playing time.  He is now the only guy on the team who grinds like the Great Yankees did from 1923 till the last few years.  Even when they were bad in the early `70s, guys like Murcer and White were making pitchers work.  Not this bunch of pretenders.  And Refs has been smoking hot for the past month in AAA and his average over that time is around .400.   Play the man!

Start by DFAing Headley and moving Castro to 3B. But the Knicks have a better chance of getting Durant.

They won't DFA Headley. Cashman and Girardi love him. If anything, they may try to find a trade partner in the offseason.

What do they love? It has to be their fragile egos that can't admit mistakes.

Flats dissing Gardner's effort.

Actually he's being refreshingly honest on Yankee Pravda.

Headley's had three different balls go off his glove and it's the third inning!

At 7:40 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Seriously, it won't happen, because they will give the long leash to veterans but not prospects, but what is the harm of playing Refsnyder at third every day from here on out?

At 8:15 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

I would prefer Castro at 3B and Refs at 2B.

At 8:47 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

And I would put Pineda in the pen

Refsnyder was in the game, now he's not. sent up to hit for pitcher, Girardi pulled him back when D-Backs replaced Grienke. Beltran will hit

Not sure of the situation (not watching), but this pretty much sums up the Hal-Levine-Cashman-Girardi Yankees.

And the uncritical NY media that pretends they are smart.

They have lived off the team Stick built (with some luck given how long some of the core lasted) and the payroll advantage for years.

But they are being exposed now.

Agreed LINJ, the regime has done little to improve the overall team outside of sign a few free agents to extend being competitive for a few more years. They didn't have the room to sign others and extent their terrible decision making.

Put Pineda in the pen, bring up a MiLB pitcher. This guy needs to be motivated, keep pitching him and what is his incentive? Put the hat on straight, maybe that would be a good start ....

At 7:10 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Did they sign themselves?

Even though he said he had not read Steinbrenner's comments placing blame on the underperforming Mark Teixeira, Chase Headley, Michael Pineda and Luis Severino, Girardi said he was not surprised by what Steinbrenner had to say

C/P from NYYFans:

There are 192 qualified players in the major leagues so far this year.

Three Yankees...Teixeira, Didi and Headley...are in the bottom 20 of that group for OPS.

Particularly ugly is that two of those three are corner infielders that play in a hitters park (and make a combined $35 million which makes them practically unable to be benched if it continues) and the other was thought to be a player ready to enter his prime.

Put another way, the Yankees have three players in their everyday lineup who can reasonably be described as part of the 10% worst offensive players in all of baseball a quarter of the way through the season, with two of them playing offensive positions..

That's hard to do.

It's one thing for an owner to call out horrible veterans. To lump in a kid who has had a handful of starts is almost immoral.

The team is going to be mired in mediocrity until a major organizational shift takes place. Hal doesn't have the stomach to make difficult choices (sell at the deadline, go all-in on a talent like Moncada); Levine pokes his nose where it doesn't belong; Cashman undervalues offense, gives veterans and players from other organizations a long leash but won't give that same leash to his own prospects and continues to employ the same people running the draft who, at best, have had mixed results; and Girardi won't play kids. Add all the bad contracts to the mix, and you've got this ugly reality we're looking at for the foreseeable future.

Not that he would be available, especially to the crosstown rival, but if Harvey could be bought low I would be all over it

How can a bad offensive team that doesn't play good D not find a place for Refs?

At 4:57 AM, Anonymous Bob said...

Both Harvey and Pineda need a change of sceneray.

Perhaps add Refsnyder to the deal to get Harvey.

At 7:55 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Are we talking a straight swap of Pineda and Harvey with Refsnyded added in? Because there's no chance the Mets do that deal.

At 9:43 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Less than zero.

We can only hope:

And btw, for now Refs should get every one of Ackley's ABs.

At 10:01 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Don't get me wrong, I would do that deal in a heartbeat. The Mets would just laugh.

I'll have to see it to believe it, but if they sell, they should sell Gardner, Beltran, McCann, Miller and Chapman.

At 10:16 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Anyone would. Pineda and Judge won't get you Harvey.

At 2:13 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Hensley TJS part 2

What a combination of bad luck and bad development in their minor-league system pretty much since the 90s.

At 4:03 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Ackley at 1B again. The idiocy of this franchise.

At 4:20 PM, Anonymous Bob said...

Buster Olney suggested trading McCann at the deadline and said the Yankees should call the Rangers and offer McCann for Gallo.

That would be great if Gallo can remain at 3B.

I always viewed Feinsand as a shill. He has been curiously critical this season:

If Castro could ever learn to walk it would elevate his game significantly.

At 9:21 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Yes, he would live up to the potential that was seen for him when he was 20

At 2:12 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

That us what Refs can do, a 10 pitch at bat leading to a double. They don't have many guys that take long at bats. Grinding.

At 2:12 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The Grinder works a long AB and turns in a two run double. Totally grinded.

At 2:15 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

But I'm sure he will go down on Tuesday. Stuffed have confident in this GM and manager.

At 2:15 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Edit: Tough to have confidence

At 2:33 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

For a guy like that, they should try to find a spot.

He may never win a title here before opting out, but put Tanaka in the group of CC Sabathia (first time around) and Mike Mussina of Cashman's best free agent starting pitcher signings.

At 3:11 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Girardi lifts Refsnyder for Gardy in the 7th.

At 5:17 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Because Hicks is so good defensively and offensively that they need him to remain in the game?

This team is dope.
