Knicks Met With Vogel
Word is leaking out that Phil Jackson and Steve Mills met with deposed Indy coach Frank Vogel this past week. That, perhaps, explains Steve's disappearing act at last week's combine. It might also explain why Vogel went from the top of some lists to the bottom. I don't suppose it's a fait accompli that he's getting the job, but the Knicks were a little too quiet last week, and with all the teams we follow, that usually means something's up. So maybe it will be Vogel.
It's sort of interesting that the Knicks are taking so long to build a "Triangle Squad." Back when Bill Belichick was on of only two teams running a 3-4, it used be easy for Bill to find cheap parts. Far as we know, the Knicks are the only team trying to run the Triangle now, and they don't have enough guys to execute it. Of course, teams like Golden State (who not only have a start player than should have been a Knick, they have the Knicks first choice for Coach Triangle), and the Spurs run elements of the Triangle, so maybe they've got all th guys.
And it's strange the the media seems to treat the Triangle like it's the Single Wing. It's not some antiquated scheme, it's a specific motion offense and all the good teams run a motion offense. When you're on O, you've either got to be shooting, passing, cutting, driving or picking. In the Triangle, off a pass you either cut to the hoop, or set a pick for the guy who now has the ball. You don't stand around, and you don't clear out for Iso. Too many Knicks just stand around when they should be executing an action verb. Seems like they shouldn't have guys like that anymore, and should be making sure Zinger, Willy and Grant all keep it moving.
Btw, Willy's agent denied that the Knicks have offered Willy a deal, but that seems more like the Knicks wanting to control the narrative, rather than them not doing what they need to do with their stashed guy. The Rangers signed their's last week, and they do share an owner.

In a way, who the coach will be is a diversion. With NBA being a players' league, it's really about whether or not Phil can get a difference making player or two to come here.
The fact that we had a season that earned us a top 10 draft pick and yet we don't have it irks me, sorry not in context with the coaching discussions but just had to blow off some steam!
It's nauseating, and somehow Glen Grunwald still earns a living from basketball. He should be a basketball pariah consigned to basketball hell.
Also, I think the draft pick issue has influenced every move Jackson has made.
Without a pick, tanking this season was fruitless, so he re-signed Melo, and added marginal vets like Afflalo and Lopez, taking up valuable cap room for this offeseason.
Now, Lopez proved to be valuable, but Afflalo was horrendous, teasing now and then, but beyond that being a ball hog who can't shoot.
He HAS TO OPT OUT!
Calderon, no pass on anything there. Horrible move.
I definitely think the dearth of picks has hurt the Knicks and the Rangers, and giving away three picks for McCann, Ells and Beltran has really hurt the Yanks

So he is actually conducting a coaching search and he's just not advertising.
I think it's just justification for Phil to expense travel and eat at nice restaurants. He'll still go with the Puppet coach Rambis.
I agree with lionheart that I believe these "interviews" are just to appease the fanbase and Melo.
I renewed my season tickets but will not be happy if Rambis is the coach.
There is one thing that gives me (false?) hope.
Does Jackson truly believe that they can attract important free agents with Rambis as head coach?
They missed on all their big targets last season, and clearly, no one is rushing to play with Melo.
So unless the strategy is to tank next season and gain a high lottery pick, I want to believe that Phil can see the oncoming train in the mirror.
I don't think Rambis will be head coach. I do think he will be Triangle Coordinator. They still have plenty of cap room, and could also trade Melo or Lopez to gain more or picks.
They do if Afflalo and Williams opt-out, but will any player of real value want to take their money? That's an open question.
Melo is complicated because of his no-trade. Any team he would likely play for has a low 1st rounder.
Just heard the very tail end of Begley with Hahn/Depietro.
Phil wouldn't mind of Melo asked out.
Vogel could be a compromise candidate.
I think the best trade for all might be the rumored trade at the deadline between Boston/Cleveland/NY. Boston gets LOVE, Cleveland gets MELO, Knicks get the Nets #1 pick + this year.
Boston gets a Legit top player to lead them to the promised land. Cleveland gets Melo, a much better secondary scorer option that Love. Knicks get back in the draft and get a good young player to build with Zinger!
I think Cleveland has to lose to make this all happen ...
Sure, but I'd be shocked if that happens

FYI: A source close to Jeff Hornacek says talks still on-going. No deal as of yet. "Not sure why all these reports out there," source said. -- @FisolaNYDN
