Giants Sign ND DE Ishaq Williams
This is almost a shocker coming out of the rookie mini-camp, but the Giants have signed former ND LB/DE Ishaq Williams. Now, it's not unusual at all for the Giants to like a kid from Notre Dame, it's just that this one hasn't played in two years! He was suspended for the 2014 season for academic dishonesty, then the NCAA wouldn't let him play after ND reinstated him. Still only 23, it's pretty incredible that a guy could miss 2 years and get signed by an NFL team. He's probably just a DE for the Giants, and had a pro-day that would have put him in the top 10 of the drafted DE's. He can be looked at as no more than a project and camp body at this point, but he may be more. This is a very interesting development. I'm not sure if they had room or if they had to cut someone. Will update when I know.

The real problem is that someone in their front office talks too much:
Monday Morning Giants
"For the Giants, clearly it was intelligence failure," Clayton said during my radio show on 97.5 FM The Fanatic Sunday. "It wasn't intelligence as far as the selection, but the intelligence in the office, because I was hearing, like everyone else, that John Mara wanted to take Jack Conklin. He was going to try [to] push Jerry Reese to do that.
"However, Jerry and the staff were looking to take Leonard Floyd. ... Guess what, two teams jumped the Giants and now they had to reach a little bit to take Eli Apple. That kind of diminishes it a little bit."
Clayton's assessment -- shared by many -- is that the Giants settled for Apple, who may now be forced to play in the slot in order to get on the field regularly his rookie season. It's a position Apple rarely played at Ohio State.
How can Clayton say they reached a bit when Apple was the next player of their board? Player teams want being gone before they pick happens constantly. If they wanted to reach for a need, after Conklin and Floyd were gone, they could have taken Decker. Instead, they stuck with their board and tooki Apple. Meawnile, DRC misses a lot of snaps, and Apple wiil get those.
Apple could be valuable next season (and will almost certainly be in future years), but I really wanted Conklin. It just seems like too many years they telegraph their first round punch.
The Giants have signed quarterback B.J. Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams and wide receivers Donte Foster and Kardon Boone, and waived quarterback Josh Woodrum, wide receiver Ben Edwards, tight end Cedrick Lang and linebacker James Morris.
I like that the quarterback they signed is mobile. I love Eli and I hope he plays many more years, but I want the next quarterback to be mobile. Not that I think that Edwards will one day succeed Eli, but it's the state of mind that I want to see here no matter who the GM is.
There's a new post about the Giant moves.
