Yanks Call Up Ben Gamel

Yanks have called up OF Ben Gamel.  Ben, whom the Yanks drafted out of HS years ago, had a breakout season at AAA last year that made them protect him from the Rule V draft.  He's a lefty who's homer numbers could benefit from YS, but otherwise he's a solid, grinding hitter who runs hard and plays the game "right."  May never be a star, but he has more than earned this chance.  Let's hope Refs is next, and Judge, is up once he's regained control of the strikezone.

If he does well, I wonder if they'll try to trade Gardner. I'd rather they dealt Ellsbury, but I don't think any other team would touch his contract with a ten-foot pole.

I'd trade any contract in any deal that gets then younger/better/cheaper.

Yep, we need to go with youth, hope this is the type of changes Cashman was talking about making and NOT trading youth to re enforce these old timers.

Gamel won't play much, if at all, and he'll be back down in AAA the second either Gardner or A-Rod return. So it's difficult to get excited about this.

Happy for Tanaka, BTW. Having a great year so far.

Whatever Barbuto was for a minute, he no longer is.

I guess they think nothing of Swisher

Nor should they.

Swisher would add nothing other than comfort for Girardi.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Sort of like relying on washed up veterans instead of kids who have a chance of actually improving.

Another Girardi comfort player. Probably only a matter of time before Swisher comes up after the inevitable Teix injury.

What a mess.

If this nets a protected pick and forces them to realize the old way of doing things is dead, it could be a blessing in disguise. But knowing them, in the short-term, they'll just call up a bunch of filler like Swisher instead of giving a kid with upside a chance, which is frustrating.

Girardi is managing so tight that if you stuck a hunk up his ass it would turn into a diamond.

Ortiz is a whiny bitch.

Never have been impressed with Ortiz's on-the-field etiquette.

Nice to see Goody pitching some.

Castro so far has been a bright spot.

Castro has done as well as could reasonably be hoped. I'm hoping also that this reflects some added maturity on his part.
