Yanks Take Blake Rutherford

Yanks just took Prep OF Blake Rutherford from Chaminade HS out here.  Blake is a lefty swinger who at times in the process looked like he would go a lot higher.  He's about 6'2" and has above average speed that will probably allow him to stick in CF if they want him to.   He turned 19 last month, which isn't so terrible and probably the result of his folks starting him later before he had a voice in it.  He would have been drafted last year.  He's reportedly got great makeup and hustles.  The power is still a bit of a projection because he uses the whole field and doesn't uppercut much.  The Yanks will probably be able to help him with that.  Hell, Bill Dickey taught 3 generations of hitters to find the short porch.  Blake's got a UCLA commitment, but it seems like he's probably getable.  Another good athlete to throw into the mix, after most of the high upside preps were gone

Seems like they went BPA, and Keith Law and Frankie Pillere both had him in their top 10, as did MLB.com. Can't complain about this one, so for now, credit where credit is due.

Wish the Yankees had a compensation pick.

Just an average arm, but a great hitter. Law thinks he's a better hitter than Moniak.

Lifelong Yankee fan, too. Of course, we know what happened to the last lifelong Yankee fan we drafted in the first who also had a UCLA commit.

This BP article is extremely bullish on his potential: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/blake-rutherford-shows-tools-of-a-top-five-draft-pick/

You hear a lot of Grady Sizemore comps, and of course that's the young dynamic Grady.

Looks like Yankees got a steal. Hope he signs as he is a huge Yankee.

Up again in less than 10 picks.
