Yank's Edel Luaces: Who Needs School?

GCL started today, and, though, because of time contraints, I can't do my team reports yet, the less loaded Yankee team GCL East won and the more loaded Yankee team got shut out.  Welcome to the GCL.  Anyway, we may have already identified a ringer.  You remember Luaces from the draft as having come from "no school."  We learned today that was because he probably didn't need it.  In his first pro game Edel went 2-4 with two JACKS, a walk and a stolen base.  What's even more delightful about this debut, is he did exactly what he said he could do in his post draft interviews.  Jordan Scott, on of the other athletic freaks from the draft was 0-3 with a walk, a stolen base and 2 outfield assists including one at home and one at second.  Nice start, and this draft already feels good.

Stot, in response to this post:
"Unless they were idiots, I doubt they gave that kind of bonus to Nolan without knowing exactly what they need to sign Blake. The only other rational scenario would be that Blake isn't signing at all, in which case they goofed big time just by drafting him, which I doubt. My hunch would be that they're holding him back in order to see if they can sign a prep with what they have left post Blake and then they split the savings with Blake at the end. Cheers! S68."

Never underestimate this front office's ability to mess up a good thing. I would be surprised if Rutherford doesn't sign, but not shocked.

They're getting Rutherford.

Bryan Mitchell is getting close to adding running to his workout program. From there it will be throwing on flat ground and off a bullpen mound. While it’s far too soon to predict when the right-hander can return it’s not out of the question he could join the Yankees’ bullpen at some point this season because he won’t be stretched out to start.

Counted to fill the valuable bullpen/spot starter role that Adam Warren handled so well a year ago, Mitchell fractured his left big toe in the last week of spring training.

Mike K -- I hear you -- I think we're basically on the same page and with Phil as well. Please pass on a special happy 4th of July to your Dad. S68.

If they think they are in the WC race, Sanchez needs to be getting some of McCann's and A-Rod's AB.

Davis DFA

One small piece of hopeful news: Girardi was very complimentary of Refs after last night's game. Of course he may just have been sugarcoating the bitter pill, but it may also be that they have finally realized that Refs is a legit ML player and can actually contribute to wins at the ML level. I'm hoping the latter and, with Parmalee on the mend, the risk of dropping Davis is much less. I also think that Davis might be well advised to accept going back to the minors for now. At least he'll get paid, and it's not as if teams are falling all over themselves to sign him. We'll see.

I'm honesty shocked they made the correct decision between Refsnyder and Davis. Hope Mitchell comes back strong next year (and Kaprelian hurries up and gets back).

Thanks Stot!

Yeah, he seems to like him, and he should because he is a gritty baseball player with skills, and that's his type. Some in the FO, I'm not necessarily saying Cashman, but someone has been leaking shit to the media aboiut Refs for two years.

I think Davis has agreed to that in his contact, Stot.

This game sucks because it shows the Yankees aren't good, but they still won because the Twins suck worse.

Pineda has looked good over the month of June and hope it continues for the rest of the year. Whatever adjustment made by Rothchild has worked for him.

This portion of the schedule pretty much makes whatever the Yankees do fool's gold. The Rangers' depleted rotation will only further help the Yankees look like pretenders just long enough to get them to the deadline without a total collapse. Consequently, no fire sale.

And honestly, do we really trust Cashman to get good value for the team's tradeable assets? If pretending nets them Gurriel (and by extension, his brother) and they let some of the kids try to help, I'm fine with it.

Trade Pineda if you can. He will break hearts again.
