Knicks: Afflalo Opting Out
Yipee! Aaron Afflalo is opting out of his Knicks deal. I wish him well, but what I observed was a past his prime ball hog. No digity. Still no word on Derrick Williams, who I happen to think would shine in Hornacek's fast breaking, movement O. But gaining cap room is good. I think if they both opt out, which seems likely since Williams seems more valuable than Afflalo, and thus stands to gain more on the open market. I think that's 8m and 4m, creating 30M in cap room for the Knicks.
Btw, what do you make of the Knicks hosting a Draft Viewing Party for the press on Thursday Night, given that the Knicks don't have any picks? Or do they? Or do they have something else up their sleeves? Or are they just taking care of their beat guys. Is Isola invited?
UPDATE: According to Woj, Derrick Williams is also opting out. Cha-ching! Though he would have looked even better under Hornacek.

Affalo is even more out of touch than JR Smith, who LeBron can't believe that the Knicks traded, yet he barely had an offer when he opted-out of his contract after the 2015 season.
thank the lord AA is gone. I think this gives us around 35-37mil in cap
Good start...
I think 30 million is what we have available, not 35-37. At least, that seems to be the figure that I have been reading.
They have to make the obligatory run at Durant with a very time-limited offer.
I would have liked to re sign Williams
It's pretty tough to commit money to him until they know what they can do to upgrade the guard position, and whether or not there is any chance at getting a difference maker.
Was hoping for the rekindling of the Knicks/Celtics/Cavs possible trade involving Love/Anthony and youth/draft picks to Knicks. To make this possible the Celts had to be knocked out pretty early (check) and the Cavs would have to NOT win the Championship (uncheck)!
Losing Williams will hurt but the Knicks have close to enough for two max contracts. Expect them to spread that out to 3-4 players like they did last year!
I hope their signings are better than last year's. Lopez was the only truly productive one.
Glad to see Refs still hitting, how about Didi? looking good. I don't root for losses but it is inevitable for this team. I agree, we need to fail badly so that we are forced to rebuild like so many teams do .. We have some nice young players already ascending to the majors so a long rebuild is not necessary. A couple of good trades at the deadline would be great!
Stephen A Stupid hearing LeBron and Durant to LA. Broussard says no, but maybe Durant to GS.
Still Stupid.
Knicks Receive: Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday, & 2017 2nd-Rounder
Bulls Receive: Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant, Jose Calderon
Trying to figure out how I feel about this. It clears a lot of cap for next 2 years and we get a flyer on Rose in a contract year.
More thoughts coming soon.
Not sure yet.
Did they have a big man signed, iow, an agreement to agree.
If you want to save cap room for the next year, this helps
If you're playing more up-tempo, Lopez is probably expendable.
So you could try to sign somebody a big name to a one year plus an opt out
If there are no other unreported part of this deal, and based on what you know about Rose medicals, I think I like this
On the other side of the deal, obviously the risk is that Grant has more upside than they think he does, because if they did see his upside is being very high they probably wouldn't make this deal
You get a one year free look at Rose, next year you have a Room to pursue Westbrook or other guys
In the meantime, maybe you reclaim MSG as an attractive place to play for the home team rather than as a showcase to play against a bad home team
Waive Wroten
I agree lawyer very low risk potential high upside....
Overall, I like the deal, especially if you intend to play up-tempo. Maybe they go small ball but that might mean KP in the middle, and he will get beat up. Not strong enough.
Would love to hear that they have a big man coming in. Maybe it's KPs buddy - Wille H.
