This Week on the Blog
Alright, big week on the blog coming right up.
Yankees: The Yanks have to win 1 game this weekend to host their wildcard play-in game on Tuesday against the Astros. If they can't get it done, they'll travel to Houston to play it. It will be interesting to see how they set their roster for the play-in game, and if they win that, thereafter. They'll need ace Tanaka, not gopherball T. And I will hopefully write something about the farm this week.
Rangers: The Rangers start playing real games in Chicago on Wednesday. It bothers me, sort of immensely, that as of now Tanner Glass is still on the team. That he is has me sort of worried about Gorton, who I really wanted for that job. There seems to be some indication that they still might make a deal, but it seems it will be to trim the 14 forwards, and in that case it can't be Glass, because he's untradeable and will instead be someone like Moore, whom I like. They head to West Point tomorrow.
Giants: The Giants face another must win game. This time in Buffalo. They were supposed to get Cruz back, but that's not happening. It seems they are getting Owa Odigizuwa, back, and that could really end up helping the passrush going forward -- if not tomorrow. And that could really help them with some decisions. Beason should see more snaps, too. So we'll see. They really need to win.
Knicks: The Knicks wrapped camp at West Point today, and will presumably start playing preseason games this week. Melo made it through all the practices. Zinger did not, as he tweaked his knee and they kept him out. It's being characterized as a very minor thing, so he should play in the games.
So, there we have it. And important slate of games and or decisions coming up on all fronts. Have a great week, readers!

Burning Severini in Gane 2.
There is no way Shreve should be on the ps roster. He is burnt toast thanks to extreme overuse.
Severino has to knock it off with the gopherballs.
So it's not seen a second guess I would save him for the wildcard as a reliever I I care more about that than home-field.
Severino is spitting the bit.
Maybe it's pitch sequencing
Refs keeps hitting. Who knew? Oh yeah, us
Slade should start
Bitch hit him
It bears repeating how much this team screwed up by moving Warren to the pen. How many wins did it cost itself?
Ackley fucked up
This cannot happen
Good AB
Come on, McCann
I'm a big believer in the ebb and flow of confidence. This team needs some on the offensive end.

I would look at every start not made by Tanaka, Pineda, or Severino since he left the rotation, then compare that ERA or FIP to Warren's as a starter.
Ryan adds nothing
Less than that.
Refsnyder is settling in. And someone needs to ask Cashman or whoever why we got Drew/Ryan for the majority of the season.
Girardi has to answer for that.
He also has to answer for overusing Betances.
Need a run...
The apologists will come up with something to excuse Teflon
@Buster_ESPN: Betances has pitched on each of the last three days the Yankees have played. 74 appearances in all, MLB leader in innings.
@NeilKeefe: Ref has 13 hits since becoming starter on 9/24 (9 days). Here's Drew hit totals per month... April: 11, May: 13, June: 17, July: 12, Aug: 18
Awful. Just awful.
I hope that on Tuesday night we aren't saying: Houston, we have a problem.
@BryanHoch: Since the AS break, Brian McCann’s .199 AVG is the lowest in the AL (min. 200 PA), followed by J.J. Hardy (.205) and Brett Gardner (.210).
There are some otherwise smart people out there who support Girardi, but they are so misguided. Refs is their hottest hitter, hits better v. RHP, had two hits vs. RHP yesterday, and the moronic fool still isn't playing him. F him.
Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Brett Gardner LF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Carlos Beltran RF
Brian McCann C
Greg Bird 1B
Chase Headley 3B
Dustin Ackley 2B
Didi Gregorius SS
RHP Michael Pineda
And this isn't about Ackley. Play him, but not at 2B.
Also, Cashman needs to intercede on all these non-hitting veterans like Gardner and McCann if he disagrees.
They need to try Ackley at third in spring training.
Yes, if he has the arm strength
There is a lot of irony here:
“We’re going to do everything we can to win,” Joe Girardi said. “Saying that, I have to be smart about it too. I can’t burn things out in the bullpen. I can’t let it get to where if I need two innings out of (key relievers) on Tuesday, I can’t use them. So it’s tricky. But we’re going to do everything we can to win. It’s not like we haven’t been doing that the whole season, so I can’t see any reason to stop today.”
Girardi has now become a clown
How do you trust Crapuano in a game like this? He should be fired between innings.
Just have to hope Astros lose to get home field...otherwise you lose ARODS bat in Houston.
How has Capuano remained on the team for the duration of the year outside of a few DFAs? This is why there needs to be a come-to-Jesus meeting this offseason.
Even a false prophet would have sent Crapuano packing for good. ;)
@LoHudYankees: Yankees have 20 active pitchers. Of the ones with more than eight big league innings this season, Mitchell and Capuano have the highest ERAs
Get Mitchell out of the pen and make him a permanent starter. This experiment ended in failure.
Warren is better as a starter too.
Lost in all of this, what Pineda is going forward is an open question
Gardner has to be hurt
The Diamondbacks did the Yankees a solid. I guess that sorta kinda makes up for giving Schilling to the Sox for nothing? Well, not really.
Facing Keuchel is going to be tough tuesday night against this mediocre lineup.
Wonder if we will see Young instead of Gardner in LF and we better have Refnsyder playing 2B.
