Yanks Win
The Yanks just pounded the Red Sox in game 1 of their three game series. Tanaka was strong early, but then fell apart a bit and gave up 3 runs by the beginning of the 7th. Wilson came in and looked good, but Giradi lifted him with two outs and a 1-2 count for Betances. Betances walked the guy he took over, then K'd the next guy. Then the Yanks scored 9 more runs in the bottom of the 7th. McCann and Young both had three run jacks, and that was that. Pinder and Rumbelow both looked good in mop up. ARod and Tex also had good nights.
Tomorrow is Severino Day and they'll have to make a move to add him, then might make a position player move to replace Ackley as backup 1B.

Lawyer, from the previous thread... I haven't followed Dombrowski closely enough to comment on him as a GM. I was honestly surprised to hear he was leaving, though, since he has a good reputation.
Let me reiterate, I don't want to trade Refs (or Sanchez) for a 2Bman. I just have no faith in either getting a real shot in NY.
Nice win.
I hear you.
They have been spinning their wheels with Cashmsn for far too long.
They won't do it because it's all about not caring about being great, but Dombowski would be a tremendous move.
Could see a situation where Cashman brings him in as a special assistant as he has done with some of his other GM friends when they've been out of work.
He is too talented to work under Cashman.
Ortiz is blind to his own projection:

I wouldn't mind Cashman as team president and Dombrowski as GM if he's as good as his reputation.
The only thing that really defies explanation was Joe Girardi’s decision to pull Justin Wilson in favor of Dellin Betances in the middle of an at-bat. With a 1-2 count. Against a lefty.
“Strategy,” Girardi said.
Care to elaborate?
“I’m not telling you,” Girardi said. “You can write what you want; I’m not saying anything.”
Well, if is the only way to get rid of Cashman and he has no power, ok, but I think Dombrowski will get an Epstein like job somewhere, maybe in the AL East.
They may be waiting to see if they need to burn one of their extra bullpen arms (Pinder/Cotham) on mop up duty in tonight's game and option him back. Then they can call up Slade or Refs, with the other coming up 9/1. With Ryan hitting decently, my guess would be that Slade comes up and Refs gets regular work at S/W-B.
Some have offered explanations for Drew (and Ackkey) by using BABIP despite their low LD%.
Ryan's BABIP is .353, his LD% is 14.7.
So this isn't likely to be sustainable.
