Yanks: Byan Mitchell to Start

Pineda has forearm tightness, so Bryan Mitchell is coming up to take his start tonight.  Mitchell's been having his best year in AAA, and he's one of two guys currently on the Yanks who can hit 100 on the gun.  That's a nice feature for a starter, but the offspeed stuff will be the key to his future success.  If he's good tonight, this could be an interesting twist of fate.  The stuff is that good.

Meanwhile, forearm tightness is generally a bad sign, but given the extreme heat in Texas this week, perhaps it's just dehydration.  Btw, I believe dehydration is a leading cause of injuries in all sports.  Let's hope we get him back.

UPDATE: Somewhat curiously CC Sabathia is taking the start and Mitchell will be long relief.  Why is it impossible for the Yanks to start a minor league starter?  Why do they have to funnel them through bullpen assignments?

Also, Pineda is on the 15 Day DL with a grade one forearm strain - same thing Miller had.

Example number 48578738790 of why making pitching the cornerstone of your team is a bad idea.

It's also why you can't evaluate a trade for at least 5 years.

Last year, Mike Axisa mentioned that he would be open to trading Pineda (when he was doing well), because he will always be at risk of injury.

I agreed. Most went nuts.

Well...

Pitching is very important. But it's impossible to know which ones will stay healthy.

Now, on the flip side, it could be the reason I was wrong bout Greene/Gregorius.

Part of objection to that trade was that Capuano was going to be in the rotation instead.

But given the way Greene is sucking, and some elbow issues he had earlier, he may be moving toward TJS.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Many in industry sense #Yankees are poised to strike. Looking into all available arms, as they always do. Generally a team that moves late.

I would love to admit that they do something smart. I am very skeptical.

Here's hoping! So far so good!

So typical:

Joel Sherman ✔ @Joelsherman1
Plan now looks like CC moved a day to start tonite. Mitchell initially thought was coming to start, instead long-relief protection

Pineda to the DL with a grade one forearm strain. Same thing Miller had, so he should be back at some point.

Haha, of course Mitchell is only up for long relief. Should've known better.

Miller missed a month because of that, but hopefully that's all it is.

I would trade Pineda if is he is ever healthy and pitching well again, and got a good offer.

No doubt.

If only a team with surplus pitching values Ryan and Drew the way the Yankees do!!!!!

Another odd thing is that they didn't keep the Pineda issue under wraps until they made a deal, or the deadline passed.

If I'm Hal, I want an answer to that.

Sherman thinks we are picking up a reliever as Phil suggested

If it's Kimbrel, I think it would be ridiculous because I find it hard to believe that they will pay three relievers > $10m a year long-term.

And then to sacrifice big assets for yet another reliever? That makes even less sense.

Also, I think it's reasonable to think that Lindgren would go in any deal for a reliever.

Ackley to the Yankees for Flores (who is a superior player most likely) and Jose Ramirez. So, an extension of "let's keep playing bad players at second and hope they magically become good."

Something is really messed up in the baseball people's thought process, and that isn't on Hal, except that he keeps them employed.

On a positive note, Sherman thinks they can spin him to another team.

On a putrid note, Sherman thinks Drew is better and well-liked so not playing him could be a clubhouse problem.

Something is terribly wrong when shit players command so much on the field respect. Off the field, hey, that's their business.

Ackley????really???

He's gritty.

LINJ, was just about to post that about Drew. It might explain why they've been so slow to cut him.

Either way, it all further proves how stupid they've become. They should be thanking Teix and A-Rod for covering their asses this season.

If they let players control marginal roster/playing time choices, they are out of their minds.

This isn't a declining icon who is allowed to bat at the top of the lineup despite hurting the team.

This is a nobody.

At 1:52 PM, Blogger Michael said...

LINJ seems like a waste of assets not?

Phil something else coming???

At 1:59 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

They tried to get him last year but Seattle wanted Mitchell.

He has never really hit. If this year doesn't demonstrate the impact of offense, someone isn't paying attention.

This is the issue:

Andrew Marchand @AndrewMarchand
I wonder if this mean Rob Refsnyder could be included in a bigger deal for a reliever.

At 2:06 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I keep saying it, but there really is no bottom to how poorly this team is run.

We gave up nothing for Ackley who can play a few different positions and his swing fits our stadium.. I like it... I see another move coming since he needs to be on the 25 man, so let's see what happens.

Mitchell isn't starting because he was in Scranton until 2am when he got the call to the bugs. Starting him would put him at a disadvantage considering he has been traveling and didn't sleep. You guys always overlook such minor details that matter so much

At 2:12 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Let's hope they flip Ackley.

But really, ok, let's give first year, initial credit for Didi and Evovaldi.

They are complimentary moves.

Drew, Capuano, Headley, UGH!

Teix and A-Rod are the show. One, they would have given away for free, the other hasn't had an OPS near .850 since 2010.

That's pure luck, and it demonstrates the overwhelming importance of offense.

He's a kid. I didn't need sleep when I was his age either.
