Pineda Dominates Sox

When Pineda pitches like this, you wonder how he ever struggles.  No walks, and swing and miss stuff.  He made one mistake to Betts, but was otherwise way too much for the Sox.   ARod hit the Yankee homer and they were able to tack on more runs as the game went on.  Wilson, Betances and Miller did their jobs after Pineda left with 2 outs in the 7th.   Good stuff.  Refs up tomorrow!

So when Ryan is healthy, does Drew get cut in favor of Refsnyder, or does Ryan get traded and Drew is made the utility infielder?

@BryanHoch: Yankees lineup at BOS: Ellsbury cf Gardner lf Rodriguez dh Teixeira 1b Young rf Headley 3b Murphy c Gregorius ss Refsnyder 2b Nova p

When Ryan gets back, we'll find out just how dedicated this team is to getting Refsnyder playing time.

To me the value of Ryan is that you don't need to give him playing time.

“You’re going to have to think about things as we move forward,” Girardi said. “But you’re going to have to see how he plays and how he adjusts. Are we naming him our second baseman? No. He’s been called up and he’s going to play against these left handers and we’re going to see where we’re at. … I think anything’s possible here. The thing about the game and the world we live in, if you produce, you’re going to play. That’s the bottom line.”

Chris Young can hit lefties but he's a liability defensively.

Honestly, though, probably should've kept Nova in. Girardi is gonna burn this pen to the ground.

Didn't see the game because it's our last night in Charleston, but according to Chad Jennings:
Refsnyder went 0-for-3 in his debut, but made two strong plays in the field, including a crucial double play to get out of a second-inning jam.

In one at-bat he was robbed of a hit on a diving catch by the Sox's right fielder.

A year ago at this time many were doubting Gary Sanchez ever would develop into a major league catcher because of questionable work habits and the inability to play at a consistent level. Now, he’s playing the Futures Game.
General manager Brian Cashman predicted the day will come when Sanchez wears a big league uniform and play regularly.
“Ever since spring training the buzz is that the light bulb’s gone on,” Cashman of the 22-year-old native of the Dominican Republic who is playing at Double-A Trenton. “The thirst, the desire, the hunger, has matched the talent now. His receiving has significantly improved.
“He’s still young for that league, performing really well. At some point, you’ll see him moved up to Triple-A, too. He’s going to be an everyday MLB catcher, no doubt in my mind.’’

Refsnyder needs to hit and play good defense cause otherwise he will start to platoon with Drew.

With is OBP once he gets settled in he will be the ideal #2 hitter splitting Ellsbury and Gardner.

Asshole 2

“We never deny anybody’s opportunity to force their way in,” Cashman said, “but the God’s honest truth is this is about Saturday and Sunday. We saw we were facing two lefthanders, and we’re trying to win every game.

He needs to play everyday whether it is here or in SWB and I hope that it is here. If he starts to platoon, he will begin to press and try to do too much.

The God's honest truth is this team's wrongheaded approach to running baseball operations seems to have infected a man who a decade ago saw the importance of long-term planning.

If they platoon him, they're doing themselves a disservice.

Agreed.

Let him play everyday batting 9th until the trade deadline and see what happens. He doesn't seem rattled at the plate and takes pitches.

Like to see Refsnyder and Gregorious for the next 10 years up the middle.

He made a strong and accurate throw on the relay to 3B on Bett's triple.

Nathan Mikolas, a cold weather prep who has had some injuries since they picked him hit for the cycle last night in Pulaski.

The Farm keeps getting stronger.

Refs will be lucky if he ever gets 4 ab's in a game...
