The Yanks just hit 5 homers. and CC saved his bad inning of work until his last inning - the seventh - allowing the Yanks to clobber the Rays 11-5. ARod, Beltran, Gardy, Tex and Headley hit the bombs. This was a fun one as CC was pretty much dealing most of the night, and this version of the Yanks is back to grinding out their ab's. Gardy went left-center and Tex went oppo, which were very good signs. Carpenter was shaky again in relief, but Brandon Pinder was interesting - a righty throwing slider after slider mixed with 94 tonight. Still see no reason not to call up Lindgren and others to get them experience in the middle of games, and in low leverage finish the game situations. Ellsbury got "a day." The Singleton/ Cone broadcast team was fun.

I am struck by how far A-Rod has hit some HR this year, including the one in the 1st.
It's obvious that the only thing holding him back in recent years (physically, anyway) has been his hips, and they're good at this point.
People talked about his lack of bat speed, but that was because he couldn't clear his hips. Now he can.
Sabathia: 7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K.
Not a bad line at all. Probably helps when the offense actually scores some runs for him.
Lawyer, to add to your point, maybe the wrist really was what was holding Teix back these last few years. He'll never be a .300 hitter again, but his and A-Rod's performance up to this point has been a pleasant surprise. If Beltran is indeed figuring things out, then this team could make a run if the pitching stays healthy.
It's possible Mike. He's clearly lost bat speed for a long time, and that's why his AVG has plummeted, but the wrist probably explains the power shortage.
He also became much more of a pull hitter when he came to the Yankees.
Lindgren's FB is sitting at 89-90 so far this year. Way down from his mid 90s he was throwing when drafted.
Also Bird is on the DL with a shoulder injury and going for an MRI. I was really hoping he would explode this year after he tore up the AFL. Looks like the Yankees will be looking outside the organization for 1B after Texeira's deal is up after 2016.

I can't understand the poster above who predicts that Bird will not replace Tex in 2 years. When did his shoulder injury become career - threatening?
BTW - anyone see the replay of the shot that Brady Lail took in the face last night while pitching for Trenton? Seems to be OK, but boy, it looked scary out there for a few moments. He did walk off under his own power, and there were no complaints last night of sight issues, or even of a headache, although I am sure he has one this morning.

And as for Gregi, I get it, they have a lot invested in him, but Drew? Drew? Really? Who the hell cares about him?
Yeah, I've no problem with Gregorius playing given they traded assets to acquire him, and he needed playing time to work through his defensive miscues.
Drew should be treated like a utility man at this point.
Drew should hopefully only get to end of May. Huge emphasis on hopefully.
Apparently Lindgren had two games when his fastball was down, and since then it's been at 91-94 with the occasional 95 when he thinks he needs more. Probably just a spring deadarm like so many pitchers get.
BTW, Joe Girardi said Nova hit 95 mph in his extended spring start today. That's good news.

This team has been very lucky because of older players coming through and other players over performing. That's why they have to cultivate any potential offensive output that they can in case that stops, and they're not doing it
No question. The pitching has shined at times, especially the back end of the bullpen, but this team is winning because, unlike the last couple of years, it's hitting well.
Starting Drew over Pirela at this point is madness for the very reason you described, Lawyer.
So Tulowitizki might ask for a trade so I wonder if Yanks will make a play since Didi has struggled at SS.

More seriously, give Grego an extended opportunity. I do wish, however, that he would cut down on his swing and just look to make contact more often.
