Giants: Rookie Camp Opens, and So Does the Roster

As the Rookies gathered for physicals, contracts and meetings today, the Giants created room to add two more by cutting LB Terrrel Manning and WR Kevin Ogeltree.   Wouldn't be surprised if the corresponding signings match the same position groups.  Meanwhile, the cutting of Ogletree creates more room for the Giants to possibly keep both Corey Washington and Geremy Davis.  Glad to see them not over-valuing Veterness, like our Yankees and Rangers still do.

They hit the field tomorrow.  God bless their good health.

I didn't understand the Ogletree signing anyway

Pissed about Collins.

But on the larger point, where is there real data that supports leveraging older players, particularly marginal ones?

When I was young it would frustrate the hell out of me.

At this point, whatever. It's your business. If you are too stupid to exploit to the max, that's on you. I don't directly put much money in your pocket, if any.

Not sure that the Giants had the same grade on Collins that others had.

The WR I want gone is Parker, who sucks. He was a net negative except in that fight protecting Beckham vs. the Rams.

And speaking of dumb owners, I know some Knicks fans who are apoplectic about Isiah returning to NY in any capacity.

Personally, I don't care unless he actually he returns to the Knicks.

But really, for all his erratic behavior what Knick GM drafted better?

Not Layden.
Not DWalsh.
Not Grunfeld

So yeah, give me Jerry West in his prime, or lottery luck for Phil Jackson, but Thomas wasn't comparatively awful to recent Knick GMs, at least in the draft.

As for Collins, I thought that he was quality depth at an extreme discount. Even if you thought he wasn't worth a 1st. And if he disappointed, the loss in dollars and time was much less than the opportunity cost.

I still would have taken him -- don't get me wrong, But I think the Giants didn't even want him at the discount, or at least never got the chance to talk to him.

Is this a weak attempt at humor?

Redskins’ GM says Bryce Harper would be a safety in the NFL. Not a corner, because “he’s a white guy”

Bryce Harper

Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan was talking about Bryce Harper on 106.7 The Fan and what he’d be like as an NFL player. Interesting topic! Maybe more interesting than McCloughan thought it would be before he answered. From CSNWashington.com:

McCloughan is also a scout by nature and knows how to evaluate talent. He was asked what position Harper would play on the football field and his answer was just great:

“Ehhhhh, probably strong safety. But, I went to a game a couple weeks ago, and he flipped his hips and caught a fly ball out in right field in the corner, and I thought, maybe [cornerback]. But I’m thinking, uhh, okay, no, he’s gotta be a safety. He’s a white guy.”

Not because he’s too slow to be a corner. Or too bulky. Or doesn’t have the moves. But because “he’s a white guy.”

This brought to you by the league which still has a lot of people who think black people can’t be quarterbacks and racial slurs can be team nicknames.
