Knicks: Carmelo Opts for Knee Surgery
Carmelo Anthony has opted for surgery, thus ending his season and preserving the Knicks shot at a top 3 pick. Well done, Carmelo. I actually think the Giants should have shutdown Eli in each of the past two seasons. No use getting hurt - or more hurt in Melo's case - in meaningless games. I think this means the Knicks will have two roster spots for more auditions.

Coughlin would likely have opposed shutting down Eli, because it's arguable that he would have been fired (or retired, if you want to be polite) but for the two (meaningless) end of season "runs."
Anyway, heal up, get the top pick, use their cap room judiciously, and then Melo's true talent can be tested in a way it has never been.
That can only happen if he becomes more of a team player than he's ever been. I'm hoping he will.
The Melo era has really resembled the Marbury era lately -- but it gets a lot more breaks from the fans and the media.
Well, Marbury was kind of crazy.
Melo is pretty normal for what he does.
It's merely a guess, but I suspect that if Grunwald hadn't traded away the 2016 pick, Phil would have re-signed Melo.
That would have probably given them two high lottery picks plus cap space.
That move was among the dumbest in the history of sports because there was no reason for it.
*would not*
Marbury and Melo have both been the best guys on the Knicks, and both had trouble playing with the help that was brought in or was already around to supplement them...
Both were also strong for their size and got to the lin a lot.
I hear what you're saying. I think, however, that there are significant differences.
Not sure where to post this but pitchers and catchers report today!!!!
Also, yanks held a second private workout for Moncada yesterday evening. His agent also said offers have been coming in this week. I'm expecting him to sign with a team prior to position players reporting on Feb 25.
I'm hopeful it's the Yanks. I also really want Yadiel Alvarez...18 year olds with his stuff are rare breeds and he'll probably command 10-20mil
I strongly agree with Lawyer on his above comment that if the Knicks still had their 2016 1st rounder, Phil let's Melo walk, or trades him for a bad contract and some young assets. That would mean 2 poor seasons in a row, but 2 high lottery picks in 2015 and 2016, and maybe a few solid mid-level FAs, like a Milisap or a Dragic.
