Giants Draft, pt. 3: The Spags Effect

One of the advantages to having Steve Spagnuolo back as DC, is that the Giants really know what he likes and how to pick guys for his D.  In fact, since Spags left, the Giants had been neither fish nor foul on defense, and in their drafting.  For example, Fewell, for all their denials was more of a Tampa 2 guy, and that did lead to picks like Marvin Austin -- a typical Tampa 2 under tackle.   Spags was more multiple and blitz prone than that.   In fact, Spags liked long athletes on all three levels and so it's unlikely that we'll see anymore Jayron Hosley type picks even for the slot.  We'll most likely see tall guys everywhere who can blitz the passer or drop into a fire zone.

So think longer guys when you are looking at this year's defensive players.
