Yanks Re-Up Cash

Well in no surprise to anyone the Yanks have re-signed GM Brian Cashman for another three years.  We'll see if he's expanded his powers in this latest go round.  It doesn't seem like Cash has the same relationship with the Steinbrenner kids that he had with their dad, but I think it would be really hard for another GM to come in and work in that fractionalize front office.    Hopefully, he's solidified some things and got them to back off their fear of an empty stadium and yearning for quick fixes.

The farm had a big rebound system and should once again be the primary feeder for the big league team.  For that to happen, they have to keep their draft picks, find more IFA gems over the next two years, and hire someone really capable to step into Mark Newman's job.

They also have to re-audit all of the minor league coaches and see who's executing the organization's plan, and who isn't and needs to be replaced.

With this bit of business done, they can finally have their organizational meetings.

So they fired Long and the first-base coach but kept the third-base coach? Or are they moving him over to first where he can't make poor decisions to wave runners home?

I have to hope this deal came with an incentive of, "Our minor leaguers better start contributing over these next three years, or you're gone."

I think Kelleher's contract was up. Maybe the third base coach's wasn't,

I think the owners are the ones who would rather buy old guys than trust kids.\

It was ludicrous that they didn't call up some hitters this year.

If you can have one of the best GM's you might as will have one of the worst. They've done that; kudos.

They think so highly of him that they keep him forever yet they ignore most of his suggestions? That doesn't make any sense to me.

It is reasonable to think that most of what they do is what he wants to do, including relying on aging veterans.

Sure, in 2004 he talked the talk but when he found out he couldn't execute he did a 180 and this is what we got. Mediocrity and the laziness of relying on veterans.

Cashman said again in his interview today that the owners expect to win every year and the Yanks, thus, will not follow the model of the Cubs and Astros and collect picks. So, it is indeed the owners who push for free agents instead of picks.
