Rangers Stuff

The Rangers have called up Michael Kostka to take Boyle's place in the defensive rotation.  Of course, he's not very good and won't take Boyle's exact place -- more likely Klein will move up to the second pair with Staal -- and either Kostka or Hunwick will play with Moore.     Of course, there's no upside in this.  Boyle getting hurt early is a bad thing, but not using his absence as an opportunity to break in Dylan McIlrath, Conor Allen or Mat Bodie is foolish.   We'll need those kids in the future, Kostka and Hunwick have no future with the Rangers.   They're making bad investment.   McIlrath played great in his last preseason game, and putting stay at home Dylan, with John Moore who sort of flies around, and has skills would be a pairing with size and upside.

Boyle will be out for 4-6, so maybe we'll see a kid or two get a chance after the firm of Hunwick and Kostka doesn't add anything.

Also, Matt Lombardi refused to report to the AHL, so the Rangers are releasing him, which will open up another contract slot.   It would be nice if they could open a few more.

I really liked the toughness the team showed last night, and the way the offense rushed back on D.  The compete level was great.   Also, the big three on D, McD, Girardi and Staal, were all very good, and we can ride them again this year.   That's why the Rangers really could afford to bring up a kid for the 6th spot.   They have three horses.
