Rangers: McDonagh Named Captain

Ryan McDonagh has finally been named Captain of the Rangers.   This seemed like it should have happened after Cally was traded.   I'm not sure the long wait served anyone's interests, and McD did not have a very good preseason.

Of course, he is very much the guy I thought should be Captain, but one of the things he has to do as a big strong guy and leader is keep things clean in front of Hank.   At least till McIlrath is ready.   In one of the games last week, I noticed him about 5 feet away from the crease when the other team had a guy in the slot who eventually scored.   That guy had to be wiped out, and it was McD's job to do the wiping.   So, hopefully, now that he's finally got his recognition, lets hope he get his head back in the game.

UPDATE:  Stepan, Girardi, St.Louis and Staal got the other A's.   What does that say about Rick Nash?

I hope that he is fully recovered from the injury he sustained in the playoffs.

I have no issues with McD. being named captain, but sometimes I wonder if he is too quiet a personality to be a captain. Does he, for example, call guys over and have a little chat with them when things need to be said?

Not that we will ever know what goes on behind closed doors, but still, I wonder.

Without making an absolute comparison, Jeter appeared to be a quiet captain. For example, he was once asked if he had spoken to Cano about not hustling, and he said that you don't know what I say in private.

I think he talks more behind the scenes. For example, he and Stepan were working out with Malone before the preseason, and suddenly, Malone's in camp. I think the Minnesota crew carries a lot of weight.

Also, Brady Skjei, even when we drafted him a few years ago, talked about patterning himself after McD, so he's also influential as an icon for other players.
