Yanks Apparently Passing on Tomas

Word is leaking out that the Yankees are passing on Cuban OF Yasmani Tomas.   While I hope this is because they are saving dough for Yoan Moncada,  either way, it's doesn't bother me.   Sure Tomas has power, and would not cost a pick, but I don't think he has great control of the strike zone, and I literally cannot stand watching sluggers who will swing at anything.   So good luck to him wherever he lands, but I'm happy not planting our flag back in Cuba with this guy.

If you're going to spend $100 million, it better be on as sure a thing as you can find. Tomas didn't strike me as that kind of player, so I'm OK with this. Still doesn't excuse the larger problem of the Yankees passing on every talent out of Cuba since Contreras.

You're right, it doesn't. But they can't unspill the milk, so we'll have to see what they do going forward.

They have made so many mistakes in spending big money, and in not spending money, like Robertson to this point*, that it is more than likely that they will continue to be a mediocre franchise with the most wasted resources.

Then factor in that Cubans don't cost picks, like Ellsbury, McCann, Betlran, etc., and their failure to sign Cubans is even more indefensible.

*It's reasonable to think that the Dodgers and Tigers will go hard after him and even if they don't burn the pick on a suboptimal signing, it is a much lesser return than a trade would have brought.

I'm not upset about this one getting away as long as we don't go and sign some one else and lose the pick.

I don't disagree on this particular signing. It's the cumulative mismanagement that has me fed up with them.

I know where you are coming from and I agree with your take on our direction but after reading the scouting reports im not willing to fork over the cash it looks like its going to take to sign him.

The O's extended Hardy, which is good. Yet another aging veteran (he will be 33 next season) is not what the Yankees need, and aging players have been their heroin.
