Yanks: Another Front Office Change
Ahead of the finalization of Cashman's new deal, Gordon Blakely, who has been with the Yanks since 1998 has moved onto the Braves. It was considered a coup when the Yanks got Blakely from the Mariners back in 1998. I think he was originally head of international scouting, but it has seemed his position with the Yanks eroded over the years, and Rowland is now the big guy in international scouting for the Yanks. I think Donny has already supplemented his IFA team by adding one of the good national cross checkers, so I'm not sure the Blakely vacancy needs to be filled as such. But we'll see what kind of turnover happens. It could be more than we expect, but certainly less than some of the readers would want.

Everybody leaves but the guy who supposed to be in charge of this mess. Jeez.
I wonder if Kevin Towers will return ?
I think Rowland had taken Blakley's responsibilities over the past few years as they recovered from the scandals of the last decade. Rowland is in the scouting Hall of Fame, and I hope they keep him right where he is because he is finding gold.
Towers is friends with Cash, and Damon Oppenheimer, as well as with Theo, so he could end up back here or with the Cubs.
He's got a good reputation as a pitching scout.
I would love for Theo to be the GM here.
I like Theo also but to rebuild you need an ownership willing to allow it to happen.
True, but they don't even have to fully rebuild. They need to be able to stop sucking at development and only succeeding at trades in which they take back more salary.
I'm hoping that the Steinbrenner spawn will come to understand that Hal is actually not very bright and is costing them money and prestige over the longer-term.
I also wouldn't be surprised, despite his assurances to the contrary, if we wake up one day and hear that the team has been sold.
I'm only OK with Theo if he operates the way he did at the beginning of his tenure in Boston, and not at the end.
At least he's competent at his best. Cashman's jumped the shark a long time ago for whatever reason.
When I watch the Detroit series, I think about what they might've given up for Robertson. And I have to think Cashman and didn't want to trade him or Cano, because in the past when he doesn't like moves he said so, but he hasn't done that since the Soriano trade.
