Various: Cashman and Yanks Working on New Deal
Well, this probably will not be too popular around here, but it looks like Brian Cashman is staying with the Yanks. It will be interesting to see if this is just a re-up of his current job, or whether they're giving him a promotion, or a new position or if they plan on building a new constellation of executive talent around him. I was pretty sure this was a foregone conclusion, so I'm neither intrigued or depressed about it. We'll have to see what else they do.
The key to this offseason is not to lose draft picks for FA's and not to trade the good prospects for old stars. It's that simple. The one this I was worried about with the possibility of a new GM was that he'd come in and trade the good kids to make a splash on the MLB field next year.

That's an extended middle finger to the fans.
I hope he sends checks to Stick and Buck.
We'll have to see what else they do. They have to keep their pick, and both if they end up losing DRob.
Letting DRob walk and weakening one of the few strengths of the team (back end of the pen) is what I fully expect to happen under this current regime.
And the casual fan will have no problem with it because, "He's not a closer," because he blew a few saves here and there.
People who want to make Betances the closer are nitwits. As I've said repeatedly we need relief aces for any situation, not the ceremonial ninth.
I hope D-Rob stays, but I do not think he or any relief pitcher is worth a Papelbon type of deal.
But you are correct. Do not lose the 1st rounder(s).
I think last nights As-Royals game shows once again that pitching doesn't win.
And I would also like to thank Billy Beane for outbidding Cashman for three pitchers that would've wasted our farm system but I'm pretty sure he would've jumped out if he could've obtained them. Just like last year when he tried to get Dempster.
