Yanks Win

Michael Pineda was Ace-like, Jeter had three more hits, and Pirela looked like he could have been helping all summer.   If Pineda and Tanaka are both still healthy next year, and Greene keeps pitching like a late blooming stud, the Yanks will have the makings of a strong rotation.  They should think about offering arbitration to McCarthy, though he will probably get a multi-year offer somewhere.   Let's see if they let Pirela play more.  There's really no reason to play any of the veterans other than Jeter at this point.

The opportunity costs of not giving Pirela a chance before tonight shows why this team will never be as good as it can be under the current failed decision-makers.

I like McCarthy. In addition to getting a lot of groundballs and to having pitched exceedingly well with the Yankees, he seems like a really smart guy, would probably make a good analyst someday and has a really hot wife.

Everything Yankees do during this off-season has to be governed by how much they're willing to spend to rebuild the offense, assuming that they aren't willing to rebuild.

In terms of pitching, Robertson has to be the priority over McCarthy, but they cannot allocate money to either or both unless they're willing to spend money on the offense even if both accept arbitration.

Yasmani Tomas is going to cost a lot of money .. is he worthy of that type of investment? He has started doing private workouts, I wonder if Yanks bring him to their complex in Tampa.

Billy, I don't personally think he is. But if the Yankee scouts are convinced he could be a strong corner outfield bat, then they should actually make a serious run at him.

As for Pirela — why in the world was today his first start after getting called up like a week ago? And why does it take like a million injuries before guys like him, Greene and Mitchell are given a chance?

And yes, LINJ, Robertson should absolutely be a priority. They shouldn't weaken one of their few strengths — but given the way this team is run, I fully expect the Yankees to let him walk.

I think Girardi doesn't like breaking in the kids, and might have been resisting call ups. Otherwise, I can't make sense of his treatment of the kids, and not just this year.

If true, it makes Betances' emergence all the more impressive.

Betances went a long while at the beginning of the year with NO ERA in order to get some love from Girardi. He was pulling him whenever he walked a guy earlier.

Did Girardi have any issues playing the kids when he was with the Marlins? LINJ and Kale have both clamored for Pirela to be called up for a while and when he finally is, he never played until he got a start at DH today. Just doesn't make any sense to me at all. I like the kids swing and aggressiveness, wish he had a bigger audition than this
