Tanaka to Pitch Sunday

The Yankee Ace,  Masahiro Tanaka, will return to the mound and start for the Yankees on Sunday.  He'll probably be on a restrictive pitch count, but this start and any others should help the Yankees and Tanaka make a decision about surgery or more rehab.   He's one of the keys to any possible rebuild.

Why bother? Meaningless game shut him done for the year

Cause he needs to build his arm and innings for next year.

This is a chance to find out if he needs surgery. That will still hang over their head, but it's important to find out as soon as possible.

I know this was addressed in an earlier post but...

On the Prado news — as someone whose appendix ruptured when I was 13 (two days before Christmas, no less), here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery.

Phil and Rich, I agree with both of your sentiments on Pirela finally getting called up. It's inexcusable and why the whole organization needs a shift in philosophy.

Wow, 13, that sounds unusual but I'm glad it's just a distant memory for you.

Sadly, I have digestive issues that I tend to trace back to that fateful day due to the peritonitis that resulted. But thankfully, it's nothing that should cause bigger problems down the road.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have digestive issues too (reflux) but that's probably a middle-age thing. You're younger, so you shouldn't have to face that stuff yet.

For all the hype, since he became a Yankee, I have never seen the above average defense that Ryan may once have been able to offer.

They got hit by the Rats like what five or six times and all they did was throw near someone? What the hell is wrong with his team.

Rats = Rays
Freudian typo

Rats is a hilarious Freudian slip, LINJ.

And seriously? That's pathetic.

Why did the Rays come out of the dugout? They hit Jeter first.

I was told, that when Girardi took over, the days of not hitting people would end. But he really is Torre II.

He said it himself in relation to the Red Sox on WFAN when he was hired.

All of a sudden, he is pissed off about this team's health being put at risk.

It's his freakin' fault for doing nothing every time a player got hit by TB, especially Headley.

That should have caused a war.

As he said tonight...FINALLY...but without effect. Intent is irrelevant.

Yeah, he's off spouting about how angry he was, but it begs the question as to why there was JUST NOW retaliation.

As far as HBP stats go we are in the middle of the pack with 52 players hit. As far as pitching goes we have hit 62 and trail only the CWS who have hit 63. We were in the middle of the pack last year. Take a look at the stats at baseball reference.

It's easy to sit at home and ask for a bean ball war because of perception or misperception.

I can't stand the Rays and Madden. There are times I'd like to see someone bounce one off his adenoidal coconut but its not like we have abandoned the art of hitting batters. We've done it as much or more than nearly anyone this season.

We do seem to hit our fair share of batters. But we do not seem to retaliate. Not saying never, but very rarely.

Like Rex Ryan says - you hit one of ours - we'll hit 2 of yours. This should be the Yankee motto.

Context matters though, doesn't it?

And the context is that any aggregate stats notwithstanding, they have been beat to shit by the Rays and did nothing.

Edit: did = have done

Certainly context matters. For the purpose of context in regard to this conversation my comment was in response to Phil's statement:

"I was told, that when Girardi took over, the days of not hitting people would end. But he really is Torre II."

That seemed and seems far more general than contextual in my view hence the use of aggregated stats.

But if he doesn't protect his team after a series of HBP, one of which could have ended Headley's career, when is he ever going to do it?

That's why this fact pattern is so dispositive.

Dispositive of what? He didn't order a head hunting response in a game when one may have been warranted? A general lack of the aggressive use of the inside part of the plate? A general failure to protect his players? A need to avoid more injuries to his players and avoid suspensions?

I'm sorry but I can't agree that we can generalize about his aggressive use of pitchers from one instance given the intervening facts regarding this season and last.

I think I'd survive a 12(b)(6) on this or what ever Jersey's corollary is. Have a good one.

Girardi was mad that his players were hit "five times."

Yet, there was no response after the first four times it happened.

That's nonsensical at best, and grossly negligent at worst.

How about throwing inside.

It's street justice and keeps the peace.

Second day in a row and Pirela isn't in the lineup.

This organization is now a caricature of itself.

At 4:25 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Of course, because Ryan (who is another of the Cashman/Eppler don't know talent signings) has earned playing time. He hasn't had an OPS+ > 60 since 2011.

So who needs Pirela?

Ryan got a hit. Like it matters.
