Pineda Wins Again
I think it's fair to say that had Pineda and Tanaka not missed so much time, the Yanks would be in much better postseason position right now. Tonight they also got homers from Drew, Prado and Ellsbury. If those guys (other than Prado, who has hit for some power as a Yankee) had hit a few more homers, we also might be in better shape. Same with some other guys. Pineda doesn't throw 98, but something is difficult to pick up. He pitched 6.1 of one run ball, and the run was a homer. The fact that someone squared him up so well was surprising, as was the second good appearance in a row by Huff. I think that's 5 in a row.

Most impressive thing about Pineda is he came off the DL pounding the strike zone. 70/96 pitches for Strikes. In fact the dude has only walked 4 guys in 37 innings all year.
Pineda was great, and one of the few things to really be excited about gong forward, if he can stay in one piece, which is hard for most pitchers.
That's why they need to prioritize acquiring some dynamic offensive players with pop. That is what has been missing, except for Cano, since A-Rod and Tex's declines (Jeter too, but he hasn't been that type of hitter for a while.
No Maas has a screen cap of Suzyn Waldman wearing whatever she was wearing tonight. Too freaking funny.
Speaking of dynamic offensive players, or at least that kind of potential, the Cubs are calling up Soler, another player the Yankees made a lesser bid on. He hasn't shown HR power, at least in the minors, but hits 2B and has a great OPS.
What do they have against Cubans?
I just saw that Pineda's velo was up tonight, topping out over 97.
We can use a guy like that.
We can also use a guy like Prado to start at third base next season, what with the power he's shown lately and the fact that he's getting paid starter money. :-)
I am not sure about the accuracy of the gun in KC. I recall very high readings in past years with pitchers, that were not replicated elsewhere. I would therefore presume that he topped out at about 95.
Prado comes through again. He has been a fantastic pickup for the Yankees. I know that several here think he is not worth it, for whatever reasons. But no ballplayer is worth their salaries these days. However, the guy plays hard, plays all over, and is one of those teams need for their versatility, especially if the Yankees are serious about going with a 6 man staff next year.
A 6 man staff means either a 6 man pen (unlikely, IMO) or a 3 man bench (most likely, especially based on the fact the Yankees have done this before). Guys like Prado and Zobrist (Tampa Bay) are very valuable in these situations.
Yeah, I would trade Prado today.
Prado is like Randy Velarde. You can always use a guy like that. A league average bat at every position on the diamond.
