This Week On The Blog

This should be another interesting week on the blog.   All of the teams could or should be in buy or sell mode, so we'll see what happens.

Giants: The Giants will start cutting players any minute now, and have to have their first cuts in by tomorrow.   Some teams have already cut guys.   The Giants will also play the last of their endless preseason games on Friday, and the first O will have a drive or two before sitting out.

Yankees:  The Yankees should be sellers, unless something comes up for next year, and I don't Prado level.   They're sort of in it, and they're sort of not, but this team isn't winning a World Series this year, so they might as well start selling.

Rangers:  The Rangers landed a good player in Kevin Hayes this past week, and now they gave to lock up John Moore.   What's more, they are tight against the 50 contract rule, so I still think they're have to make a trade to alleviate the overcrowding.  What's more, if they can free up some slots, there are still some good college players out there.

Knicks:  They're sort of doing a slow rollout of a substantial rebuild.  They haven't made a trade in a few weeks, and last week they added another coach.   Who knows what's coming this week?  A new exec?  Another trade?  They're using Phil's calculus now.  So maybe they'll do something and maybe they won't.

Should be a fun week.  Let's hope for great news for all 4 teams, and for all of you.

The Giants will probably be looking for OL depth from other teams' cuts.

Rewatching some stuff, I really like Nassib's mobility in the pocket, and the way he seems to see the whole field. Of course, Eli largely hasn't have time to see his first option right now.

I would look to trade Kuroda and Prado.

Of all the Knicks, the non-obvious new player who intrigues me the most is Larkin.

Now Mosley's back tightened up. This is not a second guess because I said it before the draft. They had to draft more than one OL even if one wasn't their ideal type, because of past failures and Eli's immobility.

It's too bad Herman is suspended to start the season, because he looks like our second best guard.

I'd be surprised if we didm't find someone at final cuts or make a trade to make sure we get someone before they hit waivers.

The problem with drafting guys who don't fit that aren't Giant-type is -- they don't play.

The Giants thought they were going to get Mewhort in the third, but he, to the surprise of the league went in the second. After that they were screwed on guys they really liked.

I was stunned that they didn't have any small school gems, and I actually think they did have 1 but he signed with AZ. They might grab him if he hits waivers.

You know more about this than me, so what's your take on why they weren't interested in Nicks for 1 year? His stiff arm ability can turn short passes into bigger gains and that would work well in this offense. I once thought it was on Coughlin, but he greeted him so warmly after the Colts game that I think I was definitely wrong.

It's kind of ironic that injuries may have contributed to his exit and now injuries are preventing his replacement from getting on the field.

They felt he quit on them. Through SB 46 he had been a great young player and on a possible HoF track.

OK, but the one year deal would have given him a second chance to prove himself without imposing a real commitment, and as you suggest, because his history was so good, maybe he was worth, let's call it, for lack of a better word, a reprieve.

The problem is that they seem to be at cross-purposes, integrating so many new guys, some that may not be sufficiently talented to be counted on, but not a real rebuild.

They have to do it because of where Eli is in in is career, and because they have to find out if he is worth another big investment, which is why probably they didn't extend him this past offseason, even though the trade-off was less cap room.

I hope the OL is good enough to let them find out.

He had quit on them. And that meant NO WAY they were bringing him back. And he didn't settle of a 1 year deal till later in the process. He had originally claimed he had the tape to get a big deal. And he had, but it was old.

Plus they were coming into a WR rich draft.

Plus what example does it set for the rest pot the Giants when quitting gets you paid?

Because of what he had already put in the bank, I would have made an exception.

Since they didn't, I think that Beckham was a luxury they couldn't afford for the OL reasons I mentioned.
