Yanks Get An Expensive Homer in Extras and Win
I believe that's four in a row, and a sweep of the White Sox. I also believe this win probably prevents us from being sellers at the waiver trade deadline that's coming up next Sunday. This will especially be true if Tanaka makes a successful minor league start between now and then. I will never root against the Yanks, but I still think they should be sellers unless they have the horses to win it all, and they don't. What we might be on the lookout for is a waiver trade that brings us a middle of the order hitter. Unfortunately, most of our best prospects wouldn't have to go through waivers to make that happen.

I can root against my teams if I think they are close to something, like if the Giants or Knicks need a couple of losses for a better pick. But the Yankees will never look big picture, so it just accept it and bitch.
I can wish they hadn't won, but I can't root against them during a game.
In 2006, I wanted my alma mater, Alabama, to lose in football so they'd fire Mike Shula and hire a better coach.
They lost, and hired Nick Saban. I look back and don't regret wanting them to lose at all.
Yes, that one has worked out.
I'm not sure I understand the notion of wanting them to lose seeing as they are no where near being able to obtain a bottom 10 record.
The bonus pool allotment between 11-20 isn't that significant to root for losing.
From RAB:
"Now here’s the catch: no one seems to know where Moncada is at the moment. Badler says it doesn’t appear he is in Cuba but other reports say he is still on the island. If he is still in Cuba, it will obviously be a long time before Moncada is able to sign with a big league team, if ever. If he has defected, teams still have to wait for MLB to declare him a free agent and for the Office of the Foreign Assets Control to unblock him.
"Because he is only 19, Moncada will be subject to the international spending restrictions clubs deal with each summer. The Yankees are unable to sign a player for more than $300,000 during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 signing periods as a result of this year’s international spending spree, so they won’t be able to make a serious play for Moncada if he becomes the available anytime soon. That’s the risk with going big in one signing period, taking yourself out of the running for the top talent in future years."
I don't blame the Yankees for going all out on IFA this year, but it would be a shame if Moncada weren't made available soon enough to fall under the current signing period.
That's why when you have really deep pockets, you sign Castillo because of the bird in the hand thing.
The money for Castillo seemed to high, IMO. Can't blame the Yankees for not going that far.
That said, I am interested to know if they went near or at the $50 million level. That would be about my ceiling for a guy who basically has not played regularly for over 1.5 years, and is not exactly a kid anymore.
We shall see how this works out.
I mentioned last week when I wrote about Yoan that we'd have to get it done before the IFA year changes over. That will happen on June 15.
Everything is too high. With aging vets, they pay it. With Cubans, they demur and it makes no sense given how much money they have and the upside of the Cubans.
Martin Prado, my choice to play third in 2015, is currently hitting .278/.305/.519/.824. Needs to get that OBP up, but good job so far.
Until recently he was like one for 20 He is not worth 11 million on a team with a bloated payroll. The one positive is Pineda because he is young.
As the games go on, and Prado gets more used to NY (there was an article recently about the fact that he was in "culture shock" when first coming here), he is showing all the doubters how wrong they were on him. Worth the $11 million? No player is worth the money they receive. However, it is what it is. And Prado is a valuable member of the Yankees, and will continue to be throughout his tenure here.
